The Church of Santa Chiara is a baroque style church in Lecce. The exterior has the particularity of having a convex shape and a well-crafted external facade. The interior has a main altar and all the side altars with valuable and richly crafted works. To visit.

Lecce dates back to the 3rd century BC and was rebuilt after the famous earthquake of 1693 in the style of the late Baroque period. This style is in evidence today in Lecce’s Piazza del Duomo and the Basilica di Santa Croce. The Duomo has an altar that is particularly interesting and the ceiling as well with its Papier-mâché wooden look. The gardens outside had some incredible Majolica tile work.

This is one of the churches in the combined ticket with the duomo and basilica. It is another baroque church, pretty in itself but with two quite unique features.
The papier-mâché ceiling looks like wood, but don’t be deceived! Remember to look up at this old marvel.
Secondly, the shape of the building itself is very unusual, being an elongated octagon.

Another nice baroque church worth of visit. Interesting faced, magnificent at night. The interior is also splendid with six chapels and remarkable altars. Look up for stunning the papier-mache false ceiling,

Impressive baroque church with an inventive roof! It was a shame the grumpy attendant (probably because he had to repeat to 90% of the people who approached that he didn't sell tickets, please give him a sign explaining this, someone!) watched TV on his phone in the church while we looked round - spoiled the atmosphere somewhat.

This is one of the churches you can visit if you purchase the “LeccEcclesie” pass, but you can’t purchase it at the church. I echo earlier comments about the attendant, who was the only unpleasant person we met in Lecce.

There are several beautiful side chapels.

As part of the combined ticket - yes, assuming you are interested in Lecce baroque. Otherwise definitely not worth the single entry of EUR 7.-.

From the outside one would wonder why to pay the extra to visit compared to the Duomo/San Croce price. The compactness though gives one a central view of 16-17th century ecclesiastical decoration, the big names don’t match. It’s no Sistine Chapel, but the side chapels decoration are amazing.

The Baroque churches of Lecce merit much more than a quick a glance: look attentively to see the adventurous angles and dramatic facades that have made this city so famous.
