Remarkable altars
Oct 2021
Another nice baroque church worth of visit. Interesting faced, magnificent at night. The interior is also splendid with six chapels and remarkable altars. Look up for stunning the papier-mache false ceiling,

Disappointing
Oct 2019
First we don't care for paying to enter a place of worship.
Second the paper mache ceiling was a bust, what exactly is the big deal here.
Third, they don't sell tickets for individual churches at the church. I had to walk 4 blocks to buy them.
Fourth it wasn't worth it when we finally did go in.

Small but impressive
Oct 2019 • Solo
From the outside one would wonder why to pay the extra to visit compared to the Duomo/San Croce price. The compactness though gives one a central view of 16-17th century ecclesiastical decoration, the big names don’t match. It’s no Sistine Chapel, but the side chapels decoration are amazing.

A Lecce masterpiece
Jun 2019 • Solo
This is a Lecce baroque masterpiece, beautiful facade with a majestic high altar and six side chapels. Look up , because the ceiling is papier-mache, a false ceiling of the 18th century. For me , just WOW

Contains S. Bernardino Realino reliques and key of the city
Jun 2019 • Couples
Nice baroque church, not so big, with a nice decorated flat ceiling and richly decorated side chapels. Interesting the story of S. Bernardino, who received the key of the city and is co-protector of the city.

CHURCH OF SAINT CLARE
Mar 2019 • Couples
This church founded in 1687 on the site of another religious building from 1429. The façade is convex and the lower portion has an elegant entry portal above which is a floral garland supported by to small angels. The façade also has columns and pillars that frame empty niches. The upper façade has a centered window flanked by 2 empty niches. A six-step staircase from street level leads to the entry portal.
In the interior, 3 chapels on each side surround the nave. The high alter has 2 twisted columns with a statue of Saint Clare in the central niche.

Gorgeous!
Oct 2018 • Solo
I found it by mistake just heading to the train station. It was a ceremony inside and i did not want to disturb.

It is very beautiful church! You should really see it. Because of the ceremony, there were a lot of flower decorations, making it even more special.

One I really wanted to see inside...but didn't
Sep 2018 • Couples
Sadly, the lunchtime closures stymied me on this and several other churches during our short day trip to Lecce.
The unusual bottle-shaped church is apparently one of the best Baroque interiors in Lecce. I was sad to miss out on that.
The façade, facing piazetta Vittorio Emanuele, itself is unusual because of its 'incomplete' appearance without a pediment above the flat dentil parapet and the hipped roof screened behind it.
The ornate façade, with columns either side of the plain panelled portal, fluted pilasters all with corinthian capitals, has 6 empty niches with shell vaults and cartouches, the portal with angels, urns and coat of arms, and the window at the upper order with similar floral decoration, without inscription on the cartouche below, all add to the impression that it is missing the final touches.

Loved that detail but so wish to have seen inside.
Try to include on your visit to Lecce.

A charch of Lecce
May 2018
A beautiful charch in style barocco luccese. Insight interesting candlestick in form of angels.
It was designed by famous architector Giuseppe Zimbalo but the facade was never completed.
