We were lucky that we stayed at the Palazzo Persone, a hotel almost adjacent to the Basilica. Opening your eyes to such an external beauty makes your day outstanding from the start. And to add to all that there is some live music in the mornings by a mobile artist.Just watch the lace facade and listen to the music.

Stunning cathedral and a must see if you're in Lecce!! We wish that the scaffolding hadn't been up but it hardly takes away from the beauty!!

Don't miss this amazing Basilica. The facade is quirky and whimsical with some eye popping stone carvings. It's a religious shrine that celebrates God's creations in all its forms.

Lecce is all about baroque and this is a good example. Note the exterior especially. This was across from our hotel and on the outer limits of the old city. A Jewish museum is also on this square but we didn't have time to visit.

Probably safe to say Lecce is the cultural centre of southern Italy. This compact little city both feels and looks like the heart of Italian Baroque culture & architecture. The sight of Santa Croce Basilica is virtually overwhelming & during our visit "Carmen" (the opera) was being performed in a functioning Roman theatre in the centre of town! In fact,... More

If you want to enjoy the great architecture of Italy you will really enjoy the walks in this old town - it has great history and during the summer period it is really busy

This place is absolutely breathtaking. You don't even know it's coming when you walk alone the street....suddenly it's just there, a baroque masterpiece. Don't forget to visit.
