Beautiful museum! Fairly large museum. It is full of finds of all kinds, from the Villanovans to the Etruscans, from the Etruscans to the Romans, from the Romans to the Middle Ages and so on. The same building also includes the Museum of Sacred Art of the Diocese of Grosseto, also rich in religious works. Loved it a lot, I recommend it to anyone who is in the city or who wants to spend a weekend in Grosseto.

A wonderful little museum with a small collection of a little bit of everything. There are some real gems. We particularly liked the models of different types of houses, they gave a very visual idea of how people lived in different periods.

The concierge at the hotel told us it was a 'small' museum. If I recall correctly, it had 4 floors of local Etruscan and Roman history. An incredible collection, we thought we would be in/out in 5 min, we stayed almost 3 hours. One of the better museums we visited.
Well worth the trip.

If you are a history fan, and have studied the art of the Etruscan period, you will spent several hours in this museum. One of our party only made it through the first floor in over two hours! Beautifully displayed artifacts, interesting videos, English and Italian descriptors... Elevator if you need. Toilette facility.

The museum is one of the few things (aside from churches and walking the walls) to do in Grosseto, but it will take a lot of time and attention from those interested in the topic. Most of the space is devoted to archaeological finds in the area (which makes sense because, you know, it's an archaeological museum) so you have to have some interest in the topic. Even if you don't, though, there is excellent signage in both Italian and English that explains what you're looking at and puts it in context of history. There's a lot going on here, more than you would expect for a town this small, so come with a few hours to spend and be willing to go back and forth to try and absorb the framework and the individual pieces.
In terms of overall collection, it's good but not amazingly great---there are better pieces in other museums in Italy. I gave it 4 stars for this reason. But as a well-guided and explained discussion of the history of the area during Etruscan, Roman, and post-Imperial times, it really deserves 5 stars.

Interesting but overload on the pottery! The time line of the exhibits seemed a little random, jumping back and forth in time

We spent over four hours in this wonderful museum. A person met us as we entered and explained the format and layout in clear English. Exhibits were beautifully presented and wall panels in each section gave excellent overviews in Italian and English for each section. Displays covered pre-history, through Etruscan and Roman history for surrounding areas.

This museum displays so artfully ancient Etruscan and Roman artifacts from many nearby sites. There are also numerous built to scale models of Etruscan and Roman structures that can be disassembled so that one can see the inside of the structure.

We really enjoyed visiting this museum, and especially enjoyed the scale models on display. There were lots of items from local archaeological digs.

In the same building there are two museums, interesting if you are in the city, especially the part related to the Etruscans
