We came here for one day visit. We have read about Ferrara's Jewish community that was important during middle ages. There is nothing left. The synagogue is closed since 2012. All other important Jewish buildings were sucked by local fascists during WWII.

A plaque outside Ferrara's synagogue bears witness to the many former Jewish inhabitants of the city who were rounded up and sent to the death camps under the Nazi occupation. For centuries, Ferrara was proud to welcome Jewish members of the community, who helped the...More

If you're interested in the ways Jews lived in medieval Europe than the walking tour marked on the city maps is interesting to experience as it only takes about 10-15 minutes to traverse. The couple of signposts that exist are only in Italian, and there...More

The Jewish community of Ferrara has a long history of centuries. Not being a papal town, Jews were tolerated even in the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. They were deported by the fascists and germans in WWII. This was the sad end of the...More

Stop by the buildings that are labelled as former synagogues and learn of the great status that was enjoyed by the Jewish occupants and then their demise at the hand of those who followed.

The whole Jewish quarter is worth to visit. Small little lanes and streets, you have the feeling, how people were living here. Unfortunately the museum and the synagoge was closed, and as we understood not temporary, it is almost every time closed!
