Averau mountain is situated near Cortain. It is possible to get there via a bus or car using the road that goes up the Pocol hill.

The mountain offers a day hiking trip of 4-5 hours of amazing moutain scenery. While it's not extremely dangerous there are some parts with narrow paths that requires to hold onto iron bars so I advise coming with something to tie yourself to the bars. It is possible to take a shorter route which is a bit safer but the scenery is not as amazing as the original route.

At the summit of the mountain there is a small house. It is possible to have a drink or eat something there and even recommended.

We stayed for 1 night at the Averau this summer. On our three previous visits, we had eaten at the restaurant but this was our first overnight stay. It was great fun. The food is terrific. The room was nicely furnished and the bathroom was extremely good. The whole facility was renovated just a few years ago so everything is clean and fresh. Highly recommended. The surrounding area is sublime.

My wife and I recently hiked around Averau mountain starting from the car park at the Refugio Col Gallina. The views from the trails were magnificent . We followed trail 419 until it merged with 441, which we followed to Rifugio Averau. From here there is a great view of Cinque Torri. For our return, we took trail 440, although there are several alternate routes. This hike took approximately 4 hours with a fair amount of uneven and rocky portions. Overall an excellent hike with great scenic views

We were on our way to Rifugio Nuvolau and decided to hike up the top of Averau. Great little Ferrata and scramble to the top, and the food at Rifugio Averau was great!

The scenery here is beautiful.
But this is one more place that is on Alta Via 1 bumper-to-bumper highway. The scenery worth the crowd, but I liked better the hikes that are not align to Alta Via 1.

This mountain looks impenetrable when you view it from the top of the chair lifts, but there is a great Via Ferrata route up which isnt too long and gives a real sense of achievement. It is just hard enough to be enjoyable without being too difficult.

There are great views all around from the top as this rocky slab sticks out above most things in the area

There are also 3 lovely rifugios near here which you can make use of once you have climbed the mountain.

We arrived without a reservation which is, apparently, not a good idea but managed to get a table after a short wait and it was well worth it. This was undoubtedly the best mountain restaurant food that we have eaten in 25 years of skiing.

The pastas are sublime - think pheasant lasagne made on egg crepes or the classic local beet root ravioli with freshly grated parmigiana! A glass of house red and a view to die for - I've found my niche!

I've skied in Cortina 3 times and eaten at Averau 6 times - the quality or welcome have never varied - can't wait to come back.....
