Easy to find this really nice church basically in the city center, across the street from tons of shops, unfortunately doors locked at time of my 1 day visit. Nice door.

Beautiful church. I wish it was open when we stopped by, but impressive nonetheless. It’s a short walk from the port entrance but you’ll have to climb some stairs to get there quickly or just take the side streets. The incline is not steep and doable even if you have mobility issues. On the back side of the building there is a small park and a memorial on the church back wall honoring those that dies during WW2.

This elegant 18th century Baroque cathedral is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and was rebuilt over a smaller pre-existing church from early 1600’s. This lovely church was simply beautiful, elegant and complete with a sense of tranquility. My family and I had a short stop off in the area whilst on a cruiser and we enjoyed the visit to this excellent working church.

Stunning huge cathedral standing near the port of Civitavecchia. It was closed when we visited, so we could only marvel at the beautiful brickwork of the exterior and the fine old front door. If it is open, be aware you need to cover shoulders and knees. There is also a fine statue of the Pope in the road at the front of the cathedral.

Unfortunately when we were there it was closed. We just sat on a bench opposite and admired it for a while. It is so clean and impressive for what it is.

From the Michelangelo Fortress it is only a 6 to 8 minute walk to see a high baroque facade with a monument of Bishop Carlo at the front. It is the Cattedrale Di San Francesco on Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. This catholic church was seriously damaged by the bombing on 1943 and completely restored in 1950. On the day that we visited, the church wasn't open. We continued to wander from Via Giuseppe Mazzini on the left hand side of the church; walked 2 minutes then turned left on Via Giosue Carducci  until we saw Piazza Aurelio Saffi. It is a unique old city gate still used as a passage to Piazza Leandra. With the Medieval fountain it is the oldest square in town. Just a short walk we explored 3 piazzas in this Medieval district of the port. Happy Travelling!

If you are in town and walking the city center it is definitely worth taking a look inside. Beautiful smaller cathedral.

This cathedral holds many fine pieces of religious art, and some of the statues are very life-like. The church is a busy place for worship, but visitors should make the effort to appreciate its splendour. The side chapels and roof are of interest too.

It is a very regular cathedral, though it is nice. If you are anyway in Civitaveccia because you take a cruise, and you have some time to walk around you can go there and have a look.
