We took our Mediterranean Cruise this past September from Barcelona with stops in Italy (Florence/Pisa, Rome & Naples). We used this company for all 3 of our port visits & we were not disappointed. This is a great way to lower the cost of your tour excursions AND get superior service with a smaller tour group—don’t get sucked in to the cruise ship excursions where there are 50+ tourists and large buses with lots of walking and shopping stops. Booking is done on-line prior to your cruise so plan ahead because the tours fill up very fast! You can join an existing group that has already been created or create your own with the flexibility of deciding how big you want your tour group to be: from 2 passengers up to 8 passengers max. We had a fabulous time and all three of our trips were terrific! Our drivers were very courteous & knowledgeable but more importantly, they were able to get us around to see as much as we could in the short time we were in each port. I spoke to a few people on the ship who took the excursions from the cruise line and they did not see as much as we did and they spent a lot of time in restaurants eating & shopping. Michael from Florence/Pisa was fantastic! Not only did he accommodate 2 extra people in our group at the last minute, he helped us to book those same folks on our trips in Rome & Naples…...what service. He was also able to get an extra stop at a Tuscany winery at the last minute for us which was the highlight of my day. One suggestion that I really liked: Michael in Florence had a speaker/headset that he used and that really helped the folks in the back of the van to hear everything he said. The other two drivers did not have these and it would have been great to have that option on those trips.

Luca & Fabio were terrific as well and I so much appreciate the fact that we did not have to do a lot of walking since my Mother doesn’t walk very fast…it was a blessing. Even though the cities we visited were very crowded…it did not seem that way for us since our drivers were able to zip in and out of traffic and take narrow side streets to avoid congestion. Most of the time, we were dropped off right at the attraction we were visiting….no busses anywhere and we just hopped on & hopped off! I also really appreciated both Luca & Michael driving us up to a top vantage point to show us where we had been that day in both Rome & Florence…it gave us a wonderful perspective of where we visited in such a short time. We were also able to meet some really nice folks on our trip and it just made things so personal for us.

PROS: Wonderful service, friendly accomodating staff with great knowledge of the cities--worry free!
CONS: Payment of service online needs to be improved as it is not very secure. Paypal service would be a great option for online payments.

Our goal was to see as many sites as possible in one day. We were met right at the ship disembarkation area. We really enjoyed “Big Luca” He was a wealth of information, and he made sure it was to be ‘our’ trip for a day. After talking to fellow cruisers who were on other tours, we realized how nice it was to get as close as we did for the drop-offs to the various sites. We heard tales of walks of several blocks to up to a quarter mile from where their bus had to park. Luca kept us focused on enjoying the site, but with a reasonable time constraint that allowed us to see the most sites. We enjoyed a great local restaurant that Luca recommended. The private guide for the Vatican made that part of the day. The skip-the-line tickets at the major sites allowed us to enter immediately, and made it possible to see more during our day. This was a very positive experience, a great value and we would highly recommend Share a Shore excursion, and “Big Luca”, to everyone.

Wow, it was a whirlwind of a day with Daniele (super, and funny, friendly driver). We were picked up at the port of Civitavecchia, just steps from our cruise ship, and were whisked away to Rome. It was definitely a long day, and rushed in some aspects, but it was very worthwhile. Daniele got us into and out of all our scheduled stops and picked us up at the appropriate times, too. We visited the Pantheon (beautiful), Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, stopped for a quick lunch and a wander through a little market, the Colosseum, then the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica. We had hired a guide at the Museum (thank heavens, as Simone was GREAT!) and we had a fabulous day, but as I said, it was a definite whirlwind. Being on a cruise ship, we were really limited in time to spend in this great city. But we got to see the main attractions, briefly, and Share a Shore Excursion did everything they said they'd do, including getting us back to the port well before sail-away that night. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again! From email communications to execution of the tour, everything was professional and handled very well.

First of all, setting up the trip was a breeze due to to excellent customer service of Monica. She responded to all questions professionally..
For the trip to Rome the 8 of us were escorted by a highly capable and pleasant guide, Riccardo who made our trip memorable. We went to all the must see spots in Rome and got back to the ship in a timely manner.

Only having one day in this port from a cruise ship is a challenge, but our tour guide Marco made sure we packed in as much as we could. We were picked up promptly from the dock and drove directly to the Coliseum. (We had two vans as there were 12 people in our family) Marco was polite and full of historical and architectural information. We made stops to tour the Coliseum, the Forum, the Pantheon and then had a quick stop in a small center where there were a few pizza/panini places and a farmers market so all our family members could find something to eat on the go. Then it was back in the car and off to the Vatican. We had pre-purchased our tour tickets and guide through Share a shore, so we never had to worry about getting tickets to any of our destinations. We met up with our licensed Vatican tour guide who was wonderful. She gave us a great background on the Sistine Chapel and what images we should look for. Since she wouldn't be able to speak to us once we were in the chapel she made sure we had lots of good information ahead of time. We spent a few hours going through the Vatican and could have spent even more. Alas - we were out of time and had to get back in our vans to get back to the ship. This was the way to tour when cruising. No haggling with prices or lines for tickets and having guides who were only worried about your party and not a large group of strangers. Great day!

We did our research before our cruise and were referred to Share a Shore Excursion. So glad we did! It was so easy and well organised and they pick you up from your hotel or cruise. The site allows you to find others to share your transfers with which makes it cheaper and more convenient and comfortable than trying to catch the train!

We booked two excursions with Share a Shore Excursion in Italy during our recent 2 week trip to Europe. One in Florence and the other in Rome. These excursions were not cheap, but they were worth every penny and were cheaper than booking the same type of thing through our cruise line. We were travelling with 2 other couples, so we reserved the van for just the 6 of us. We wanted to be able to modify the standard tours which may not have been possible if additional people had joined us. In Florence, we asked our driver Walter if we could spend half the day seeing the main sights of Florence and the other half of the day on the Chianti Wine Tour. He accomodated us and managed to squeeze in almost every major site in Florence. By noon we were headed out of the city and into the beautiful countryside where we had lunch and visited 2 wineries. It was a great experience and Walter was professional, knowledgeable, helpful, etc. I can't say enough.

In Rome, Daniele picked us up (again just the 6 of us). We had discovered just before getting off the boat that one couple was missing their voucher for the Vatican. We told Daniele and he spent most of the drive into Rome successfully figuring out how to get a copy of her voucher to her so that she would not have to pay again or miss the tour. We had a couple of special requests outside of the historical Rome tour, which he accomodated. Daniele was very knowledgeable, extremely helpful and a great guide. We had a great lunch at a restaurant he recommended, and "the best gelato in Rome" after.

While having a private driver is not an inexpensive way to travel, in order to see these huge cities with so many major sights in one day, as far as I am concerned, this is the only way to go. I would estimate we made 10 stops in each location. Had we done it on our own, I doubt we would have been able to see more than 3 or 4 in the same time frame. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone. Having the driver helped to minimize the walking. We were always brought right to the attraction and picked up at the exit. With so much walking involved in finding your way around the museums, Vatican, etc. this was a big plus. Plus both drivers were great about pointing our exactly what to look for in each place to ensure we had enough time to do everything we wanted.

We found out about Share a Shore Excursion in Italy through a discussion board on Cruise Critic, and our day with them was the best tour we took in Italy! Communication through the company website was clear and timely. Daniele, a co-owner of the company, was our guide for a full day in Rome. My husband and I arrived at the pier about ten minutes before the meeting time and were happy to see that he was already there. The Mercedes van was quite comfortable, and it was easy to hear the commentary from any of the 3 rows of seats. We were able to beat all of the big buses out of the pier parking lot and get a head start on our day. The traffic on the streets of Rome was crazy, and I appreciated what a great driver Daniele was! He kept good control of our group of 7, insuring that we all knew where to meet and arrived back at meeting points on time. Probably the best part of the day was being able to bypass the extremely long (hours-long) lines at the Colosseum and the Vatican/Sistine Chapel. Daniele just walked up to the ticket counters and our tickets were waiting for us. That was priceless! I also appreciated those of us on the tour could have input on what to see or what not to see. We had enough time to see everything, and Daniele's knowledge of Italian history made the tour really interesting.

Daniele was polite and professional, but also very approachable and funny throughout the day. And, it was nice to be with someone who had such a great command of the English language, without a heavy accent that made it difficult to understand.

My only regret is that we had already booked tours of Naples and Florence through the ship's excursions. I feel that the tours with ShareAShoreExcursioninItaly were fairly priced, and that we got a lot more for the money than with the ship's tours.

Share a Shore Excursion is a great way to visit Rome's main attractions in one day. Being on a cruise, we had a very limited time and so a private driver and a guided tour was the best option. Matteo drove us around the city and provided us information about each site. Then we met Pasqualino to guide us on our visit to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Matteo knew that it was a long and tiring day for us, so he drove us to a good gelateria. What a sweet day to end the tour with my favourite pistacchio (pees/TAHK/kyoh, as Matteo would say it) gelato!

Thank you! It was an amazing day with good memories of Rome to cherish. Matteo and Pasqualino are highly recommended!

Thank you also to Oana, for all the coordination and replies to my emails.
