This place is easy to reach by car from Rapallo or by a ropeway which also starts in Rapallo and of course you can also hike from Rapallo up to this place. You're rewarded by a magnificent old church which at certain times a day has an incredible complex and amazing "Glockenspiel" which I even recorded because I like it so much. Absolutly worth the two hour hike on wide hiking trails with mostly stairs and stone roads.

This very small church on the hill side above Chiavari will help you to get away from everything. If you are on your own, after having looked at fresco's on the walls, sit down and you will find yourself meditating even if this has never happen to you. Walk out and the the breath taking view of the Tigullio gulf will do the rest.

The Church's location makes it very attractive to stop for the view and is very popular for wedding celebrations. It contains interesting art work by the late renaissance Genoese painter Luca Cambiaso.

The present structure was built or enlarged at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries and it is precisely at this time that the first written mention of the sanctuary, a notarial deed of 1416, can be dated. The fresco by the painter Teramo Piaggio and the most important one are important inside. by Luca Cambiaso which represents the universal judgment dated around 1550. From the square of the sanctuary there is a splendid view of the Gulf of Tigullio where the promontory of Portofino can be seen

Worth driving up the Aurelia road for the beautiful view of the sea and the bay. A white painted chapel which contains valuable frescos by Cambiaso, an important renaissance Ligurian painter.

The church itself is beautiful with frescos that are great. The alter is lighted with a very soft yellow light that makes it look very different. The out side of the church is one of the best views of the entire town.

You can see this church from almost anywhere in Chiavari. It hugs the hillside on the road to Zoagli. A great way to get there is by hiking trail which starts at a curve which is the furthest west you can go on either Via Preli or Corso Buenos Aires. The hike takes about 45 minutes and is quite steep at the beginning. It passes a WWII bunker overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio and winds up at a stairway on Via Aurelia (S.S.1). The view from there of Portofino peninsula is stunning and the church is adorned with frescoes that look like they were painted by Michelangelo.
