    Hidden Campania Jewel
Fabulous views on the way up and down. If you can, stand at the window of the car that looks back to the bay. The cable car and area it serves is a hidden jewel easily accessed from the Circumvesuviana train from either Naples (45 min.) or Sorrento (25 min.). When exiting the train at the Castellamarre di Stabia station walk from the same platform level to get your ticket and walk straight to the Funuvia station waiting area on the same level. Once at the top you need to turn right from the Funuvia station exit and head down the mountain a bit to the Belvedere Terrazza restaurant to take in the very good food and views of the Napoli Bay. This is a 10-12 minute walk down a path that includes a stone staircase to the square. Across the Piazzale Dei Capi is the Belvedere restaurant. Since the Funuvia probably stops operating at 5pm I would suggest a nice lunch time visit. Your will not be disappointed.

    Not to be missed.
Not to be missed.liked it so much we went twice! Great resultant in the cable car building where we received a very warm welcome. Pizza was fab! Walks both way are worth it but be prepared the trip to san Michelle church will probably take longer than the 45 minutes advised.

    Fantastic don’t miss out
Fantastic place, went by chance and it didn’t disappoint. Cable car at the train station so really easy. At the top there are lots of restaurants and cafes. We walked to the church - about an hour on the footpath and then back on the road. A further hour. Cool up there in the pine forest - highly recommend

    A different day out
This little gem was recommended to us by our TUI rep in SORRENTO. Not on their list of tours but we’ll worth a visit. We took the circumvesuviana train to Castellammare di Stabia and the cable car is right there at the station. It’s an eight minute journey up Monte Faito and gives outstanding views of the Bay of Naples. Once at the top, there is a choice of a 20 minute walk to a viewing point or a 50 minute walk to a church with beautiful views. We chose the 50 minute walk and really enjoyed spending time in the cool shaded woodland, occasionally stopping to admire the far reaching views. Most of the way is pretty obvious although we did take a slight wrong turn towards the end but soon found ourselves at the church. Unfortunately it was all closed up and we could not gain entry to the grounds. Also, the clouds had come in over the top of the mountain and so we could not see the views on our walk back. But this did not really dampen our enjoyment. In fact it was quite a new experience on the journey down in the cable car as we descended through the mist into the sunshine again. A lovely afternoon spent doing something unexpected.

We were really looking forward to this experience. My partner and myself had never been in a cable car before. Everyone in the car had to wear a facemask. Everything was going fine until about half way up. The car came to a sudden stop and an alarm was sounding on a control panel. The car operator started making frantic calls to his colleagues in the ground station. The alarm was reset and the car restarted but stopped again after a few seconds. This happened about five times. By this time, three members of an Italian family were in tears. What happened next astounded us. The operator slid open the sliding doors wide open twice without a harness attached to check the doors. This seemed to work as we continued our journey to the top. There is not too much at the top. A small snack bar, a replica alpine lodge and some horses. There was a small unsafe path that lead into the woods with mobile phone masts everywhere. There wasn't really anywhere to get a good clear view. If they put a viewing platform on top of the cable car station, that would have helped. The journey down was less eventful.

Stunning views, 8 Euro ticket return is reasonable. Unlike many transport options in the area, the cable car actually kept to it's timetable. Starts straight from the train station. Was relatively uncrowded in May, might become unbearable in peak season. Car can take 35 people max. Felt a little cramped with ~20 on the way up. Only 4 of us on the way down in the afternoon.

Walks of different grades at the top for people of different abilities. Good afternoon or day out.

Very easy to get to from naples, or Sorrento. We had beautiful weather and no crowds. The Mexican cafe was very nice for lunch and we were served by a very nice young man. We didn't go hiking but relaxed and enjoyed the views going up and down. Very peaceful

We had done the Sorrento,Positano, Pompeii, Capri trips and didn’t know what to do to fill the last day of our holiday. We happened to notice the cable car trip from Castellamare di Stabia railway station and thought we would give it a go. The cable car station is part of the railway station so couldn’t be simpler. The views on the journey up were stunning….and the ride very smooth. At the top there is a strange neglected air to the place but don’t let this put you off. Turn right out of the station and wander down a path that leads past some ugly concrete masts and walk down some concrete steps to 2 cafes. The second of the 2 cafes has views to die for. 270 degrees panoramic views of the bay, Vesuvius, Capri, Ischia. The air is clear and smells of pine trees, it’s cooler and feels alpine . Having spent a week fighting through crowds of tourists and being ripped off every time you opened your wallet….this was a hidden gem. We sat for ages with a drink….nobody bothered us. We soaked up the gorgeous view and we enjoyed peace and quiet for the first time since we arrived in Italy. Totally unexpectedly this was the highlight of my visit to this area. Don’t be expecting anything fancy……. but it’s just a lovely, peaceful way to enjoy a few hours.

Easy to get to the base on the Circumversuviana train…actually you stay in the station to get tickets…no queue when we did it (about 10.40am) so straight up and out. Took a right turn out of the station and followed a path (tip - research walks before you go, there is nothing up there to help). Past some transmitters on the right, down to a viewing spot of Naples….kept going down some steps and came out at cafe/ viewing area and could see Capri. Had lunch here (Belvedere), was a good find…shade a breeze from all angles. Would recommend!

‼️🚨AVOID!🚨‼️

Avoid the Mt. Faito Cable car, me and my family where waiting to be called up to board and noticed 3 suspicious looking individuals who where seen eyeing up our valuables, they where allowed to get on the Cable Car without a ticket and where peering at us waiting for us to get on (which we decided against) as I fancied keeping my valuable and not being stabbed isolated in a Cable Car.

The Staff at the ticket office and Cable way did nothing to support us and wasn’t even given a refund!, just thought I’d make people aware of this situation as it could be a common thing.
