I came to Italy over the summer to study abroad, and scheduled Danila as a tour guide. What makes her stand out is her intimate knowledge of the region and amazing stories, as well as the customized experience. I am a Japanese American and was interested in the battles of the Nisei 100th Battalion who fought in Italy. In my two day tour with her, Danila, a veteran tour guide of 15 years, showed me many sites which really made the history of the region come alive. While being driven around in a private van, we were able to have many detailed discussions about the war and stories of people who fought in it. Being such a tenured guide, Danila has many personal stories to share from the veterans and family members she has met. One of the best features of her tours were that they were personalized to what I was interested in. She really takes the time to research and plan a tour which she feels you will connect the most with. Although pricey, if you are family member of a veteran, or are simply interested in the history of WW2 battles in Anzio and Cassino, I highly recommend Danila. She was not just a guide, but a fellow lover of history.

My wife and I arrived at the Cassino train station where we were greeted by Danila. She is an absolute gem, we immediately felt at home with her. She was extremely knowledgeable of the Campaigns around Cassino and Anzio, and she put great effort into customizing the tour to emphasize the importance of the Canadian involvement in the Italian Theater. After visiting the Abbey atop Monte Cassino, we were taken to the location that Canadians were finally able to cross the Rapido River, before being driven across the beautiful Italian countryside where we view the route the Canadian 1st Corps advanced as they smashed the Hitler Line and began its march towards Rome. We spent the night in Frosinone (that the Canadians Liberated) at the Hotel Garibaldi which had been used as a German command post during the war. On the second day, we visited Nettuno and Anzio where we saw the landing zones, visited the American Cemetery, as well as the largest World War II museum in Italy, as well as a small private collection near Aprilia. Danila was a great host, introducing us to Italian food, wine and culture, while navigating us through the hardship and sacrifices made by the Allies during the Italian Campaign. She was great, and she helped us coordinate travel and accommodations along the way, while customizing the tour to emphasize the Canadians on Day 1 and the US 45th Infantry Division (Thunderbirds) on Day 2. She did a great job of keeping my wife interested and engaged with everything, as she doesn't hold an Honours Degree in History as I do. I would definitely love to come back and do another tour with Danila to Ortona, Solerno or even further south to Sicily. I 100% recommend anyone interested in the Italian Campaign to contact Danila, she's the BEST!!

Dear Fred, thank you for your review. Your words fill me with pride, pride in doing this wonderful profession that allows me to pass on the deeds and sacrifice of the veterans to those who visit. The Canadian veterans have a special place in my heart. I have met many of them in the past years including Rudy Deutsch who was in the liberation forces of my hometown. Thanks again for coming with your sweetheart on your honeymoon to honor the fallen and follow the footsteps of the 1st Canadian division in the battles of Cassino. I Hope to meeting you again in the near future. All the best Danila

Danila is the most excellent guide. We booked her for the 23rd September 2021 for a tour of Monte Cassino and the focus for our group was the Polish connection, as two of us had relatives who fought there in WW2.

Danila met us at our hotel and took us in a comfortable Mercedes minibus to the Monastery, the Skorpion Tank Monument and the Polish War Cemetery. We stopped for lunch at an amazing Micro Brewery near the Tank Memorial and had a chance to taste the Monte Cassino beers there.

It was a very emotional and informative tour and we felt Danila made the day exceptional for us all.

If you are looking for a bespoke tour with a historian who is passionate about sharing her incredible knowledge, look no further.

Danila’s tour was not the cheapest available but it was certainly excellent value for money and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.

Dear Teresa, it was such an honor for me to be your guide, following the footsteps of your heroic fathers. Their memory will be eternal in the mountains of Montecassino and in the hearts of those who learn their story. Through my job, their heroic deeds will be handed down to future generations and to those who will come to visit these sacred places. A big hug to everyone. With Love Danila.

We wanted a tour of Cassino as my partner’s father was a Grenadier Guard who fought there during WW2. We were joined on our tour by two friends with an interest in military history. We chose Danila because of the great reviews from people who seemed to mirror our requirements. We are so glad that we did.

Danila had carried out comprehensive research on his battalion and our day trip was tailored specifically to his movements.

She was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the whole campaign as well as a font of knowledge on local hotels, restaurants and Rome attractions ( she also does Rome tours).

We gained a great insight into the personal human side of the conflict and my partner was very moved to be able to walk down the same street in Cassino that his father had struggled through during the battle.
We wanted to visit the village of San Pietro and although not directly part of the Guards route, Danila factored in into our day. She also provided maps and narrative at locations we stopped at. The War Cementery and Monte Cassino Abbey are must sees on any tour.
We stopped for a pizza lunch in Cassino which gave an opportunity to ask as many questions as we wanted. Throughout the whole tour Danila was empathetic and thoughtful and we would thoroughly recommend her for any WW2 tour.

Thanks for your wonderful review my dear Trisha, The Grenadier Guards and the soldiers in Cassino are in my heart and it was an honor for me to be your guide. I know the route of the Grenadiers very well as in 2011 I made researches from the association of the Greandier Guards. They came on a staff ride and I had the honor to be their guide and follow the footsteps of the Grenadiers from their landing in Pontecagnano (Salerno area) to Monte Camino, Cassino and Anzio. I had the great honor to be invited in Buckingham Palace for the Queen's birthday parade in 2012. I visited Wellington Barack in that occasion and Windsor Castle. It was an experience that I will always treasure the experience. Motto of the Grenadier Guards Honi soit qui mal y pense "Shamed be whoever thinks ill of it.

My wife and I had a great tour of the Monte Cassino battlefield lead by Danila. She is a joyous upbeat person in lighter moments, but also relates the proper respect and gravity to the horrible ordeals suffered by the living breathing people who endured or perished in this region of Italy during World War 2. Danila is an excellent communicator, who was very quick in our communications, and who can tailor your experience based on your individual interests. In my case, she was already booked on the one day that my wife and I were available. Still, she was able to see if her already booked party of Austrians would be amenable to us joining the 2nd day of their tour (which they gladly allowed). Danila then was able to design the tour so that the must-see sights for us were still on the itinerary for us on the 2nd day of the Austrians’ tour. Though our tour would have been more comprehensive if we could have done two days, my wife and I both learned from and enjoyed it. I am fairly well read on WW2 and have taken private battlefield tours elsewhere. My wife came into the tour knowing little more than I have told her. We both came away having had a great experience. Thanks Danila for your knowledge, compassion, and friendliness!

Dear Sean, Thanks for your review. I am glad you enjoyed sharing the experience with other participants. It was a unique tour were You and the Austrian guests discussed about the Monte Cassino battles tactics and strategies of both sides in a friendly atmosphere toasting with the freshly brewed beer in different languages. That is the real meaning of our tour to understand, pay our respect to the soldiers that sacrificed their lives and preserve the peace for the future generations. I hope to see you again for other tours in an other Italian theatre of war Salerno, Anzio or Rome. Best wishes, Danila

Passing through Cassino on our way to Northern Italy, we decided to book a tour with Danila (who speaks excellent English) so as to explore one of WW2’s most famous battlefields. Needless to say, it was incredible. Most remarkable of all was the fact that Danila managed to construct a holistic and interesting tour regardless of our time constrictions. From the Rapido river to the Cassino Abbey itself, our experience was defined by beautiful sights accompanied by exciting anecdotes. These Danila seemed to be a true expert on, constantly providing gripping insights into the testimonies of the numerous veterans she had taken on tour. It is also important to note that she is willing to personalise tours based on one’s interests and requests. On a final note, Danila was of incredible character. Supremely bright, passionate and easy-going, learning alongside her was an absolute pleasure. When booking a tour of Cassino, there really is no better choice than Danila Bracaglia’s Cassino Battlefield Tours!

Myself & a group of friends did a 2 day tour of Cassino & the surrounding area with Danila last week. It was delayed from 2020 for obvious reasons & plans, group numbers & logistics changed frequently over the past 2 years. Danila was understanding, accommodating & helpful throughout. Nothing was too much trouble for her, including arranging a bigger bus, airport pickups, itinerary suggestions & restaurant suggestions & bookings for our evenings.

Our group have been doing battlefield tours together for the last 12 years & so expectations were high . We were certainly not disappointed by our 2 days - visiting all the key sites. San Pietro, Sant’Angelo, the river crossings, Monte Cassino itself, the monastery, the Polish battlefield including Point 593, as well a number of cemeteries. We were also treated to 2 superb lunches at great venues serving wonderful local food, beer & wine.

Overall a spectacular couple of days, which we’re keen to repeat in a few years time with Danila at Anzio. Thoroughly recommended!

Danila was wonderful at bringing to life the Battles of Monte Cassino. She provided a perfect balance of general overview and some very specific details that kept us enthralled. Two of us were WWII history buffs and two not so much, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the tour. All her choices, from lunch restaurant to site details to pay special attention were spot on. I would highly recommend Danila for anyone who wants to have a special experience learning and living the WWII history. Danila also took us on wonderful visits to the Roman Forum, Colosseum, and the Vatican Museum, and she was also able to bring precious insights to these other very different experiences. My highest recommendation possible.

I've been mulling over how to write this review for over a month now, trying to figure out how to express my gratitude to Danielle & her team.
I went to Italy with family, retracing the steps of a relative who fought in the American 36th division. The experience we had with Danielle was the best I've ever had traveling. Not only were we shown things that we never could have known through our research & family records, but the amount & depth of knowledge about the historical sights (ww2 & in general) and local restaurants & culture was overwhelming.
She arranged for us to visit fellow Italians whose relatives also participated in the battles, we shared stories and photos. We visited a restaurant owner who treated us at his restaurant and made us a cake at his farm in honor of the 36th. She is an encyclopedia of information that truly made this a trip of a lifetime.
If you are reading this & planning a trip to Italy - book a reservation with her immediately. It will add so much more depth to your experience, you would be doing yourself a disservice not to!

My dear Brendan, thank you for your words. Even if I think about it for months, I would not be able to find words as beautiful as yours to thank you. Your words went straight to the heart. The best recognition I could have wished for my work that I always try to do in the best way possible, with great passion to make your journey as unique and special as you are. Best wishes to your family group hoping to see you again in the near future. Danila

Danila was an informed delight! She went out of her way to make sure we had an excellent trip. She was extremely well-informed and insistent that we saw everything possible even although we ran way over time! Danila is knowledgable, enthusiastic and really went the extra mile to ensure we got the maximum value for money. Use Danila...you won't be sorry!!

Thanks for your wonderful review. I throughly enjoyed the tour with you following the footsteps of your brave dad. I know for most of you coming to Monte Cassino is once in a lifetime experience so timing is not a concern at all. The main purpose is to learn and to pay respect. I hope to meeting you and your lovely family once again. Best regards, Danila
