This tower dominates the Casale Monferrato skyline and is a very impressive structure. Apparently a tower has been at that location for almost 1000 years, but was reconstructed after fire destroyed the original.

At 60 meters, it dominates the skyline, and has become the symbol of the city.

The base is from a defensive tower built in the 11th century. The balance of the tower was constructed in the 16th century.

It is open only on special occasions.

The CIVIC TOWER of Santo Stefano, located in Via Saffi, with its sixty meters of height dominates the entire historic center of Casale Monferrato. Impossible not to notice it,
he follows with his gaze anyone who wanders through the alleys and squares. It is the symbol of the city, it dates back to the 11th century. it was built for defensive purposes, built in brick with a square plan, and has been restored and embellished several times. At the top dominates the weather vane depicting the same one of the Gonzaga family.

The tower is located along via Saffi and is adjacent to the church of Santo Stefano.
About 60 meters high and built on a square plan, the lower part is rather severe, while the top is refined by a loggia which supports a first open section, thanks to four copies of mullioned windows, and a subsequent dome, which certify the modifications and modernizations following the first construction, which seems to date back to the 11th century.
It is certainly to be considered one of the symbols of the city: it's a shame that the climb is only allowed during the second weekend. of the month.

Symbol of the city, it can unfortunately only be visited on certain occasions.
Next to the entrance an incomprehensible sign indicates the opening days but alternating Saturdays and Sundays seems more like a puzzle than an explanatory sign (even the inhabitants had difficulty interpreting it).
