If you manage to navigate the 6km dirt track from Capoliveri to the mine then this is a fantastic tour of a disused mine on Elba that remains a strategic asset for the Italian state government. It's worth remembering that there are only certain times during the day that tours leave the main visitor centre, which are listed on the website. We weren't aware of that so we brought some tickets for the next tour and were recommended a place to go an eat lunch while we waited.

When it's the time of your tour, you leave in convoy behind a guide bus from the visitor centre down to the mine (if you don't have a car you travel in the bus). It's about a 10 minute drive down to the mine where you're given audio-guides and hard hats. Our tour guide spoke English pretty well and there were only about 6 of us in the tour compared to around 20 in the Italian one. We were led down into the mine mixing our tour guide with audio-guide. Going down into the depths of the earth and seeing the mine was an amazing experience and would highly recommend this tour.

We visited Museo delle Miniere di Capoliveri and also took the Safari in Miniera tour for only 20 euros each. The tour included time at the museum before we jumped into the ex military Jeep for a joy ride around the steep paths in the mountains. It was breath taking and our guide Aldo explained the history, minerals, mining methods and took us prospecting. Fantastic couple of hours! The drive in is a slow 30km per hour on a winding coastal road with beautiful views so allow time for this.

From billing shop they take you via bus to the mines (6 km).
Mines are very fascinating and despite not much organization inside there are 2 Huge amazing extraction caves that will impress you! Fantastic for kids.

A good day to visit when the weather is bad. On a sunny day, you can get baked, literally. It's impressive, worth the trip.

My review does only deals with the area around here and the fantastic images [see mine] you can take here. You can arrive here by car [partly on a dusty road] but much nicer is to walk from Capoliveri as I always do. Oposite the entry to the Minieri you will find an unmarked hiking track which goes uphill [i.e. away from the sea] and after 20 minutes or so you arrive in a VERY nice area. Few people visiting Elba seem to go here or even know about it...

Booked the visit. As soon as we arrived we ate a packed lunch under the tables positioned under the pine forest in front of the reception. Left with an air-conditioned minibus to the mines about 25 minutes. Once we arrive, the very expert guide accompanies us on a very interesting visit to the mines. The history and life in the mine is explained to us. Worth the ticket.

For this excursion we started organizing it from home having been there with the old management and having had a great time. This is terrible! On the site they are invited to contact via email to which they DO NOT RESPOND by telephone. After a dribble of 2 numbers and various WhatsApp we can only exchange text messages where we underline several times our good will to contact them. I feel called a liar by the lady who claims to have never received my calls. 20 text messages to get you to agree on a suitable time and we can't do it, they tell us to follow them with our vehicles because theirs are full without obviously knowing what transport we have and that we know the roads well! Obviously at the same price as using theirs! Between her and him there is an infinite rebound, we can't find the email sent from the form on their site and we don't understand what's so difficult about understanding that we are 2 adults and a little girl. We give them wide availability, obviously not at 9 in the morning... nothing. In the end, tired and angry, we give up! Never again with this cooperative! Hopefully the old management will return and these gentlemen will learn to work with education and respect!

Route no. 1. Our Guide Livia was perfect, prepared and nice has transmitted enthusiasm. Very engaging anecdotes about the lives of miners. To improve the organization of travel with private cars was a bit chaotic. Thank you.
