We are not talking about a typically Italian town, although situated in Italy: Brunico or Bruneck is a South Tyrol little mountaneous town, who has kept well the medieval charm, with nice palaces and all around with the smell of good pastries.
Along the central avenue, there are lots of places to shop, boutiques, café bars and restaurants. During the winter holidays the little town is magical as it's all full of Christmas stuff and markets, offering handicrafts and traditional arts. If looking for a fairytale town but not for a crowded one, this is one of the best places.

We have been few times now and it is good for shopping and for a drink in the patisserie and bars. We loved also the Xmas market where I had the best mulled wine I ever tasted. Love the grocery shop at the end of the main pedestrian street and the jeweller Gabrielli with her creations. Good parking underground. Go for a nice afternoon!

The old city of Brunico consists of a couple of pedestrian streets with shops, cafes, bars etc. We visited a few times in August and shopped, but also stopped for an aperitivo in the evenings. When ordering an alcoholic drink most bars provide something to nibble on as well. By Australian standards drinks are very cheap. As for shopping, if you can get to Bolzano most of the shops are there too and they are cheaper.

The old town situated below the local castle, is the elegant shopping area with charming coffee shops, pastry shops, restaurants. The cobbled streets are pedestrian only, which run along the local river.

Just delightful!

Originaliteit, the merchant’s town of the Pustertal, and it still is. Several outdoor shops, so perfect to get your (missing) holiday gear and apparel. And when you are more into gastronomic stuff: try Horvat (delicacies) or Harpf enoteca for the porcini and broad selections of the Great wiens of Südtirol.

The town is well maintained and restored considering the medieval roots. The town is very lively having a lot of cafes and restaurants, a shopping zone which is limited from traffic. Worth visiting and spending some time in a café watching the passers-by.

Lovely cobbled streets and quite random little alleyways. Nice little shops. Interesting architecture and churches, some nice little side streets etc. There's a small bridge over the river and a nice riverside walk.

Brunico is nice little old town with settled pedestrian zone. You can walk from one to other side in ten minutes. There are picturesque houses on both sides. Place is not too touristy. There are still shops for locals and some bigger ones with sport articles in winter. You can find some restaurants or coffee shops. Parking is on the other, northern side; one underground garage some five minutes away from pedestrian area. It is also possible to visit local church and admire some decorated facades. Place is convenient for afternoon visit.

Brunico is such a beautiful town. We were in the area for MMM Corones and MMM Ripa and this small town was such a pleasant surprise. So typical South Tyrol atmosphere. Its genuine landscape and old buildings full of flowers. Unbelievable architecture, you can feel the mountain down there. Spend some time in the streets of Brunico, you will feel closer to the mountain and to South Tyrol.
PS: the visit was in June 2017
