The church of St. Michael,is the parish church of central Brixen. The first church was built in the 11th century in Ottonian style with a rectangular plan and apse. The 72 metres high characteristic square tower (the 'White Tower') was erected in the middle of the 15th century. In 1503 the chapel was rebuilt in the current Late Gothic forms. The interior was completely redecorated into its current baroque style in the middle of the 18th century. The frescoes of the vaults and the altarpiece with St Micheal are the masterpieces of the interior. Next to the impressive cathedral, the St. Michael is the 'second' church in central Brixen. But also worth a visit. Admission is free.

The church of St. Michael the Archangel is right next to the Duomo in the middle of Brixen. Very elaborate interior. Well worth the time to visit.

There is nothing on the outside of this church that speaks to its beautiful interior. The fact that it is located almost next to the cathedral (separated by a cloister courtyard behind some shops) makes it that much more difficult to be properly recognized. But its high vaulted ceiling is covered by beautiful fresco. The large organ on the balcony above the entrance door is supported by a painted base. Elegant high alter and exquisite side alters. Should be included on the list of sights of any visitor.

This was my second visit to Bressanone in 10 years. Our first was with family in 2005. We loved it so much we decided to take friends there in Aug 2015. We stayed at Gruner Baum hotel and enjoyed it immensely. We took advantage of great restaurants and spa retreats in the region. This spot gave us our walking legs back after such a long 3 week journey. So much appreciated !!!!
