Bressanone is one of the most beautiful of the medieval towns in Alto Adige. The town has the fortified town centre but most of the surrounding streets are from the same period. The town is beautiful with lots of shops, restaurants and historic buildings and museums to visit. Just below the Plose mountain so you can also go skiing (great ski resort with superb views). People are very friendly. Love to visit this time time and time again.

Bressanone is our go to place to relax, walk and eat! It’s a lovely little town with something for everyone. Great walks into the mountains, hillsides or through town. Great shops and wonderful local restaurants with authentic meals. We visit at least once a year and Bressanone is fantastic in any season!

we have visited the area three times now and the historic centre of Bressanone is one of our favourites. Quite quirky and odd little streets, but you quickly find your way around. If there is an issue, it's the awful directions to get into the place and the rather odd way the car parks and their ticket machines seem to work!

Huge church with breathtaking arches and artwork, but go for a vesper or service - singing echoes for hours and the very kind townsfolk will welcome strangers kindly, doesn't matter that you don't speak the language.

We visited Bressanone on our way back from lake braise. We found parking very close to the centro storico (old town centre) with an underground passage that leads to a road, cross it and you are in the center of town.
Bressanone makes for a very pleasurable walk. There are many small streets with arches on both sides featuring shops, cafes and restaurants. We mad our way to the Piazza del Duomo where we stopped for coffee and ice cream. The square houses many historic buildings including the duomo.
We found a shop selling local cheese, speck and sausage. After a tasting we indulged ourselves and bought a number of items from the ones we had tasted.
All in all Bressanone makes for a very interesting 2 or 3 hour visit, longer if you are interested in history and museums.

Together with Innbruck, Lienz, Bozen and Meran, Brixen has always been one of the most important cities in Tyrol.
It used to be an important episcopal city, which is still to be seen everywhere in the city at the many churches and monasteries.
The Domplatz with the cathedral, the former prince-episcopal palace Hofburg and the characteristic alleys in the historical Stufels district give a vivid picture of the beauty of this small city.
If you have some time left, Brixen is well worth a visit.

Open piazza but actually slightly off to one side of the centre itself. Sort of an end point when coming from the main car park.

Nice old town, lots of see and do, plenty of shops and cafes. We did a circuit returning the other side of the river, which gave a good view of the medieval centre.
