Cathedral of Saint Mary Raised
Feb 2020
This new Cathedral is beside the old one, bigger and bright with its statues and its marble but the old one is better as usual, fortunately they din not destroied the old Cathedral to built this one.
Started to built in 1604 on previous Paleocristiana church of San Peter de Dom ( 5th century) , as you see another church anyway was destroyed....., is a beatiful isolated church covered by marble of Botticino and statues.
The esternal due to several years used to finished it is a mix of neoclassical and baroc style. It is beatiful with several statues and colums.
Majestic internal vith enormous dome in the central of the cross shape.
Many statues and paintings can bee seen in the laterl chapels and on the main altar, on the left side you can see a bronze and golden statue of Pope Paul VI , a Pope coming from province of Brescia

The new one.
Jul 2019
The New Cathedral (Duomo Nuovo) is located next to the Old Cathedral in central Brescia.
The construction of the Baroque style cathedral started in the beginning of the 17th century, where the paleo-Christian 5th-6th century basilica of San Pietro de Dom was located. It took more than two centuries to complete the construction.
The present dome was rebuilt after destruction during the Second World War.
The facade contains statues of the Virgin of the Assumption and Saints Peter, Paul, James, and John.
The interior contains a monument to the Brescian Pope Paul VI, found on the left transept.
Admission is free.

Size does matter!!

This is a huge duomo but also very light. The dome is the third highest in Italy. The altar still had the flowers from Pentecost so the red and white displays added to the effect. Brescia's favourite son, Pope Paul VI, is honoured here with a spectacular wall memorial. It is right next door to the Rotundo- you can't miss it.

New cathedral
Apr 2019 • Friends
It was started in 1604 (not so new). During the Second World War it was destroyed and then restored.
In my view, the old cathedral is more interesting.

Beautiful Cathedral
Feb 2018 • Solo
Though named New, the Cathedral dates to the 17th century and is considered new as the Old one dates to much earlier. The inside was immense and full of light, with an incredible cupola and several art pieces around.

Marvellous while peaceful

The visitor is truck by its scale - the height of its central dome draws one's eyes upward! But it still retains a sense of reverence and respect.
The Palladio style pillars and plasterwork are impressive. I liked the huge holy water fronts inside the door as a point of welcome.
There's a lovely memorial to Pope Paul VI -- Brescia's most famous son, who died 40 years ago today!

Massive

Biggest church in Brescia.

Right in the middle of the piazza where everyone hangs out, especially at night.

Beside the older duomo or church.

This cathedral has the third largest dom in Italy. But inside is nothing interesting or breathtaking. The Duomo Vecchio (Old cathedral) is more interesting.

We have been in Italy for two weeks now and have seen quite a few of these duomo. The interior is nice but I have seen nice artwork on the ceiling in other duomo. We like the special cross door handle at the entrance and would recommend for a visit.
