This entire town is lovely. I think not many Americans have heard of it, but it came recommended by two Swiss.

The medieval town of Bormio became wealthy through its location along a trade route. The buildings used to all be covered in bright, colorful frescos. Only remnants of this colorful past remain on the outside of the buildings. But step inside this church to see spectacular decorations. The stained glass windows are gorgeous.

A wonderful architectural icon in the centre of Bormio. The village is very popular with cyclists and ski bunnies alike but a visit MUST include some time exploring the old village!!

Pros: Great architectural distinction, good photo opportunities, adjacent the town square and some nice cafes, easy to locate (campanile always helps) and part of a lovely walk through a very nice village!! Cons: None really. The Chiesa was not open for our visit but the exterior is certainly worth a look!!

Chiesa Collegiata di Bormio is a great little icon in a lovely village!!

Church located in the central pedestrian square of Bormio, newer than the surrounding context, nothing special outside and inside.

We were in the center of Bormio, arriving in the square we went in to visit the church.
The church, of medieval origins, is very ancient and dates back to 824. It suffered serious damage at the hands of the Grisons in 1620 and, the following year, it was completely destroyed by the Spanish. Rebuilt starting from 1626, the works were completed only in 1641, the year in which it took on its current shape.
Inside there is a small wooden temple dating back to 1648 and attributed to Giovanni Tedesco which surmounts the Baptismal Font which is on the left as you enter.
Inside it is quite dark but well kept.
