The Rocca dei Rettori is the local castle of Benevento; it is composed of the main keep, which dates to the Longobard period with later additions and still features roman tombs and inscriptions utilized as stone to support it, and the palace dating to the 16th century.

Known as Rocca dei Rettori, this castle is a result of overlapping and mixed constructions from different eras (roman, samnite & medieval). It consists of two distinct sections: the angular Lombard tower and the palace of Papal Governors is the rectangular structure from the medieval era.
There are three floors: on the ground floor you have the dungeons, on the first floor you find spacious halls with wooden ceilings and on the top floor there are two watchtowers to view the surroundings.
Two lovely gardens and sculptures surround the castle..
Today the castle is the seat of the provincial government and hosts a permanent exhibit.
This is a must stop and visit on any tour of historic Benevento.
