We spent the weekend in Belluno, and spent Sunday wandering around the old Centro. The 'new museum of Belluno', located in the wonderfully refurbished Palazzo Fulcis, was an absolute knock-out. The building itself is amazing, with some wonderful floors (both tiled, and wooden) and ceilings. The collection is brilliant, ranging from stone fragments from local ancient buildings, through an incredible collection of paintings, to porcelains and household objects. Such a collection in such a building, for a relatively small city, was a total surprise. They are set up ready for educational activities, which I'm sure the local schools will really be able to use. The panels of text explaining the history and significance of the various pieces, in both Italian and English, were very well done.

The museum is in a restored villa in the center of Belluno. The restoration of the old villa is in it self worth the tour. The museum is mostly about painting by artists from the area and not much about anything else. So to me that is a bit disappointing.
