About

The museum hosts a local community dance and if you arrive earlier in the morning you may be able to join. The museum could provide you with information ask for dance with parkinsons.

I spent several happy hours here looking at the wonderful collection of ceramics and paintings. There was also an exhibition of the ceramic sculptor, Federico Bonaldi which was stunning.

Elegantly housed in the cloisters of the former Franciscan monastery. 10 euros combined ticket for the museum and Palazzo Sturm. Open Mondays which is a bonus as many other museums have this as the 'rest' day.
The excellent illustrated guide covers this museum and Bassano's other treasures.
The Map spoke clearly- this is no small trip , an exciting voyage with some of the greats.
Great Archaeological Section. The Parolini Room with Guariento di Arpo's 'signed' crucifix. The Da Ponte aka Bassano section includes a portrait of the great man himself. The Canova room is 'heads' above the rest with priceless monochromes found only here. On request , (I asked of course) his two precious albums can be viewed more closely. Swoon Time for me !
Could it get better ? A wall of Tiepolo. Then Hayez. Lotto. A Mantegna of San Sebastiano. Grubacs. Sacchi........the quality is astounding.
Top that ? A room devoted to Bassano's famous Tito Gobbi .Original costumes with the odd Zeffirelli design here and there plus a screen examining each glorious creation with soundtrack to match. Bravo !
Even if you aren't into Art, the interior of this museum has to be viewed for the architecture alone.
Superb Staff . Thanks to Alice and Claudio who know so much about the collection.

Our friends love grappa so we took them to Bassano. Such a beautiful historic town. We went to the Poli Distillery where you can walk through the museum and see how grappa was made all those years ago and how it’s done today. Such a wonderful experience and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the town.

I have to say that even though I love visiting museums, this one was disappointing, mainly because there is nothing in any other language expect Italian. I was very surprised because it's a very prestigious museum and I should think it would be multi-lingual. It's always difficult to learn about the works of art when you simply just look at them. However, it can also be good; you end up interpreting on your own and maybe studying pottery/paintings/ceramics without the intent to learn...just enjoy. Still, I would have enjoyed some written information. Its a small museum so an hour was all I needed. Very nicely curated, light and airy. Two tour groups went through while I was there; they see the highlights in 15 minutes, then depart, so most of the time you have the museum to yourself. Cloisters are lovely with roses in full bloom. Small book store and clean bathrooms.

If you have an interest in Venetian painting this museum could be one of the most interesting museums in the vicinity. Not only the works of Bassano family is there; the sculptures of Canova are there as well as outstanding examples of an amazingly talented and productive master.
The bookstore is also worth a visit; one can find comprehensive documentary material about the history and arts of the city.

An unknown artistic treasure, very unassuming but the joint pleasure of seeing the beautiful Ponte family paintings and the story that surrounds them along with some of the many mini masterpieces of Canovas sculpture is a pleasure I will never forget. In fact I revisited it twice. Do not miss it.

Huge collection of art and a great exhibition on Palladio and Bassano’s famous wooden bridge with miniature recreations and ancient books and manuscripts. It’s a shame there wasn’t more info in English but it was still very enjoyable.
