Travertine Stone Lab Tour from Ascoli Piceno

Get off the typical tourist trail, and visit a travertine rock quarry, during your stay in scenic Ascoli Piceno. A number of Italy’s famous landmarks are constructed from the stone, and travertine buildings can be seen all over the city center. Begin this morning tour at the Frazione Rosara quarry, where your guide—the quarry owner—will share information about its history. Then, you’ll be given chisels and other tools and can try your hand at sculpting the stone.

We saw The Magic Flute here in April and were enchanted by the gorgeous theatre, intimate and impressive. Would love to go back

I visited here for see the Merchant of Venice and a number of free concerts put on by the city of Ascoli. They list these things on ascolidavivire. I saw a number of interesting concerts in the smaller salon in the front of the building with a huge magnificent oil painting and beautifully appointed room. If you are here for opera season, I recommend going and even the tickets for 14 euro are well worth it!
