This unassuming little museum, which is the Museum of the Diocese of Arezzo in their former headquarters, was one of our greatest surprises on our trip to Tuscany. The rooms and art were breathtaking, and the admission a great value. Each room showcased beautiful artwork, including some amazing frescoes. We were so glad we didn't pass up this gem when we visited Arezzo. Really a must see.

This museum is itself a work of art; the second floor is beautified with frescoes by Vasari and others, and includes a furnished bedroom from the seventeenth century. I was amazed to find myself the only visitor. No guided tour, but descriptions in each room (poorly translated into English). The big treat for me was a large room with frescoes by Vasari perfectly preserved.

I think this was a great find with a number of works by Lorenzo Lippi and Giorgio Vasari and their near contemporaries. The paintings are supplemented with several rooms filled with frescos that are well explained by guides in English, Italian and French. If you have any interest in art of the muddle ages, this museum should be a must see.
