I have been going to nearby Alassio literally all my life and never really looked further than Alassio's beach and promenade. So it was a really amazing surprise to see how beautiful Albenga's old town is! It's full of medieval buildings and really picturesque. There are plenty of quaint shops, restaurants and bars. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in the area!

So many beautiful square brick towers in the centre of the old town. It is very easy to walk around the pedestrianised streets and see the lovely old houses and churches. The Baptistry has beautiful roman mosaic ceilings. A good day trip .

After Genoa I believe Albenga historic center is one of the best in Liguria.
Typical of this area you can walk easily and safe along the "carrugi".

Amazing small village, founded by the Romans and you still see it everywhere. They have also 24 medieval towers and many pizzerie, osterie, bars etc.
You have to see it when you‘re in Liguria.

We were in Albenga only 1 night on our way to Venice. The town is sort of divided in 3 parts: The beach area, the newer part of town and then the old historic center inside the old walls.
We only saw the historic center by night walking around, and it was really nice. Old pictoresque houses, towers, church - and a feeling of going back in time.
Lots of small restaurants to choose for a nice snacks or a good dinner.

On our way to Venice, we stayed one night in Albenga Old Town. We certainly did not regret this, since it is a very romantic and exciting old town. Lots of hidden alleys, towers, ancient buildings and little squares. A wonderful place for an evening-stroll.
Furthermore you find restaurants and bars all over, so it is easy to find a good place to rest with a drink or a meal.

We visit Albenga for a morning (taking the bus or train from Alassio) most years. The centre is pretty much all pedestrianized, and for us it's a great experience of being in a living, working town, which seems also totally medieval in appearance. The buildings are well preserved with lots of tantalising glimpses into the past with tall stone houses and winding alleyways. Albenga is known for its fruit and flower production and has the feel of a commercial town together with the ancient centre.

The ancient nucleus of Albenga appears as a whole, as a sort of organized complex that man, in the different historical phases, has elaborated, changing spaces and volumes, from time to time, but always within the confines of the same perimenter, without a break.

An exciting city of pre-Roman times on the west side of the Liguran coast - founded around the IV century B.C, and an area to explore to get an impression before entering one of the many fabolous shops and restaurants.
