This was a really excellent visit to a winery in Priorat. As a small, family celler we received personalised treatment, not the "Disneyland" experience you can get at some cellar doors. We were met by the winemaker, Alain, and the first 90 mins or so was spent visiting their vineyards, which actually overlook the village. Very steep, great views, thankfully Alain knew how to drive the 4x4 and was able to draw from his professional experience to answer all of our questions. He was also thoughtful enough to bring along a bottle of white, so we could try the lastest wine whilst in the vineyard that produced it. A nice touch.

Back at the celler, we had a look around then settled into the tasting room. Again this was a very personal experience and we didn't feel like we were on a tour. We just sat around and chatted, whilst Alain poured us a few wines from the range - the vineyards still visible right out of the window - and answered all of our questions.

Porrera is a small village and one of the more accessible if coming from Barcelona. Containing a few cellars and a great wine bar / shop on the main square it makes the perfect intrduction to the Priorat region.

We visited the Winery on Saturday. Salus is super friendly and shows you the vineyard with great care. It's very good because we were 4 visitors and I could dedicate time to you and answer questions. He gets you in his jeep and you tour the 7 hectares of plantation they have and he shows you the different varieties of grapes they grow. He explains it carefully and very well. It also lets you try a wine and enjoy it with the wonderful views of the vineyard. Then he takes you to the winery to do the tasting. You taste several wines and combine the flavors of the wine with some foods. It allows you to better understand the composition of the wines. It's great!!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Not far from Barcelona, from the Costa Daurada beaches nor from Port Aventura, there is an small town called Porrera. There you can find a cosy little cellar called Álvarez Durán, where Fina and Salus, the owners, offer the visitors an authentic insight on the wine history of the area.
After your visit, you understand better why Priorat wines have such a great personality.

Un lugar encantador !!!! Let me share with you my recipe for successful wine tourism. First, you need a friendly, competent and knowledgeable professional who is there to host you. Second, you need a beautiful, interesting, storied place to visit. Third: good companions to share the experience with. Priorat is blessed with wonderful people, places, and products to fulfill these requirements. My overview and suggestions is a mirror of the panoramic right now but my beliefs are on growing industry and a lot more to be shown in the future. The family is lovely, received us as friends, very humble way to act in tourism and good stories and wines to share. Gracias!

Nice experience in a lovely winery hidden in the center of Porrera!
A small winery based on the ground floor of the house of the owner opens its doors to welcome any guest willing to discover the wines of Priorat. Great location with spectacular views on the own vineyards, passionate owner and producer, enthusiastic guide full of ideas to help to develop wine tourism, good wines ( especially sweet wines) and a special gastronomic pairing course! Great experience in a great company!

We had an incredibly warm welcome at Alvarez Duran winery by Salus, Fina and Ignacio - who arranged our visit. We had a chance to explore Porrera visit during a one-to-one tour with Salus, followed by a visit to the winery and tasting of their wines with a particularly interesting wine pairing for their sweet wine.

This a traditional winery with a lot of history, and the people behind it are all incredibly knowledgeable about Priorat and its wines. Highly recommendable!

We had a fantastic wine tasting experience here. My partner was also with me and he especially enjoyed it.
We learned about the different types of grapes and the different ways to prune them. It was a perfect day and we highly recommend checking this vineyard out.
Thanks!
