The best way to experience the Hajjar mountain is to start from Nizwa. There are two prominent mountains which can be explored. Both have different flavour. There is Jabal Akhdar (Green Mountain). There are some nice hotels on Jabal Akhdar. Once can follow some of the mountain trails. There are farms of Rose, Pomegranate etc. However, dont be confused by the name. Mostly the mountains are barren with no trees on them. Besides, it is famous for Diana point, the point made famous by Princess Diana who stopped there on her visit to Oman. The other one is Jabal Shams (Sun Mountain - called so becuase it is the highest point in Oman at more than 3000 metres). The highest peak is under the Army so not accessible. One can go upto the second highest peak which is is also close to 3000 metres. There are a few hotels. However, there is hardly any farming on Jabal Shams. Personally, i liked the drive to the top of Jabal Shams more as compared to Jabal Akhdar. The temperature on both is much lower than the plains. I visited in March 2019 and the temperature in Nizwa was 28 degree celcius. Just after one hour of drive up Jabal Shams, the temperature dropeed to very pleasant 14 degrees.

If your from Europe like us, you will be used to mountains covered in trees or snow so this was really quite a different experience - you feel like you are on another planet! The views are absolutely stunning. We stayed in a hotel near the top and the sunrise was incredible - something I will remember for the rest of my life!

If you want to be alone in the rock, this is place to go.
Only nature around you in the lunar spectacle.
The road goes up, turns, goes down. Wonderful.
You will see also old village and oasis in the lower part of the mountain.
For the damm, in May no chance. We haven't see water but a splendid view and a quiet place of nature.
Enjoy

These mountains reach 3,000 meters above sea level. Spread amongst the desert and semi-desert, they form a rocky green island on the sandy sea. It is amazing to ride these mountains. Short one-day trips to the deep canyons are amazing. I don't know if you can go there on a trek of several days, if so it would be great to come there. Absolutely Hajjar Mountains must see.

The Stone Mountain is one of the longest mountain ranges in the Middle East. Extending north to the Musandam Peninsula and to the southeast to the desert of Al Wahiba Sands. Separated by a deep groove. Divided into eastern and western series .. full of valleys and water canyons ..

After driving through miles of sand after leaving Dubai, the mountains come as a complete contrast of largely barren rock, intertwined with sometimes very deep wadis. A large amount of mountainside has been (and continues to be) cut away for use in Dubai's expanding land reclamation projects.

A must for people who enjoy off-road 4x4 adventures. access via Khasab Airport Rd / Sall Ala Road that leads to Jabal Sayh unpaved Rd. Not a journey for faint-hearted as the ascend to around 2000m above sea level (and clouds) is via an unpaved track without barriers. Also located at that altitude is pre-islamic graveyard.
