About
A family vineyard. Chateau Puyfromage was built in 1574 close to a 11th century dungeon and a royal dovecote perfectly preserved. We offer free visit of technical facilities with a wine tasting. You are welcome. The château Puyfromage property belongs to 4 brothers (Yves, Francis, Philippe and Frédéric Marque) whose ancestors were coopers, producers of cellar equipment, winemakers and wine merchants. Their grandfather, Abel Albert, acquired château Puyfromage in 1943. During the hundred years war (That ended close to Puyfromage in the town of Castillon la Bataille in 1453), the British troops stationed in the plains, undertook their operations based on the signals emitted “on the side of the plateau”. The expression « from edge » used to designate this place (where the château Puy Fromage now lays) was translated over time to become “fromage”. Propriété familiale depuis plusieurs générations, Château Puyfromage est un vignoble riche en histoire situé à quelques kilomètres de Saint-Emi

A Canadian Connection
Jun 2019 • Couples
Never has a "Visitors Welcome" sign been so appropriate. Our hostess and winery supervisor provided the most thorough and interesting tour of this historic property. From the "Pidgeon House" and Vineyards, then through the entire winemaking process, we were treated to a fascinating overview of how wines are grown, harvested and bottled and tasted. Over 80 % are shipped to Canada, so we felt a real connection..

Great Winery!
Oct 2016 • Couples
Sometimes you need to venture off the beaten path and visit some of these great small wineries. Chateau Puyfromage is one of them... with an excellent and moderately priced Francs Cotes de Bordeaux. Ewa showed us around the property; she was warm, friendly, informative and very knowledgeable. Thanks Ewa, we have a new depth of knowledge, appreciation and taste for Chateau Puyfromage!

Wonderful tour & excellent wine
Aug 2016 • Friends
Had a very enjoyable tour and wine tasting at Chateau Puyfromage. The owner was absolutely wonderful and took the time to show us around the property and explain some of the history, as well as teaching us about the wine making process. At the end of the tour we tasted several different wines, and also purchased a couple bottles. The wine is very good quality, and the property is very beautiful. Highly reccomended!
