Good afternoon out
Aug 2021
We took my mother here - to one of her old haunts from her youth. The gardens are part of the HHA group and this made it a very affordable afternoon out as Mum was in a wheelchair and one adult had free entrance as a carer. Access was very good to the gardens and also the park. The staff in the cafe were very helpful, opening doors so we had better access inside. The homemade cakes were delicious! A good time was had by all.

Beautiful grounds and gardens. Would have been wonderful to just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. Unfortunately the whole time we were there all you could hear was the sound of hedge trimmers. Given that it only opens for two days a week you would have thought maintenance could have been scheduled on days when the gardens are closed so that on the days that it is open you could enjoy them in peace.

Delightful Doddington!
Aug 2021 • Couples
We finally got round to booking tickets to visit - you can only get in twice a week so planning ahead is essential! The gardens are stunning with so much to see and explore. Lovely to see various gardeners across the site tending to every part of what really is a beautiful place. Would recommend and will return in the future.

We visited on a warm sunny day, having discovered the gardens last year but omitted to book. It’s a hidden gem, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the world.
We found it peaceful and tranquil. It was full of wildlife, bees, squirrels, pied wagtails, swallows and in the areas with water, lots of tadpoles, damselflies and other water based creatures.
There is a tea house serving cakes and sandwiches, and a large lawn with tables and chairs in the shade of beautiful trees. I am sure you could take a picnic should you wish to.

Friendly garden, well worth a visit
May 2021 • Couples
The garden is friendly, as are the owners and the helpful woman in the nice tea shop. We have been several times, in different seasons, and the garden is always interesting. The location is about as isolated as you will find in South-East England, which is an added attraction. The gardens are not far from some pretty Kent villages with good pubs. In the same area, we also recommend Belmont House and Mount Ephraim Gardens.

A wonderful visit to be repeated again and again and again!

This is a truly magical garden. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, enjoyed coffee and fresh cakes and then set off to explore the gardens. There was such variety and the gardens are very well tended. We also found a walk through local woods, which was a real pleasure. The only problem for us was that it is only open on Wednesdays and Sundays because we wanted to go back again for more!

A Magical Garden and excellent tea room
Oct 2020
I booked for a visit on the ngs website for us to see Doddoington Place Gardens about 15 miles from where we live in Canterbury. We visited 10 am to 11.45 am on Wed 14th October. It is an amazing place and one of the very best Gardens we have ever seen. Speaking to one of the gardeners they employ 2 full-time and 2 part-time. The variety of plants, the exquisite hedges, the ponds, magical obelisk - its a fun place to visit. Each corner there is a surprise and there are avenues of beautiful redwood trees. We even met the charming owner on our walk. at around 11 am we had coffee in the wonderful tea room full of pictures for sale. The coffee was excellent. I could have had a piece of their carrot cake or other cakes but my diet prevented that! I thoroughly recommend coming to this delightful place. We were the only ones visiting that early 10 am to 11 am.

Some gardens you walk into and just get the feeling, and this is one of them. It’s gorgeous and full of interesting plants such as the Californium tree poppies (Romneya).
The topiary is excellent and there are features of interest at every turn.
The cakes and drinks were yummy, and the weather was good to us. What’s not to like?
