Mesmerising views but be very careful

A must go mirador when on the island but due to strong winds and being partially collapsed it’s not safe to come to the edge.
There is a fence around which is already broken and a warning sign but it seems that people come there to got that perfect view anyway.
So basically the visit is on your own risk .

Fantastic view point, but partially collapsed and fenced off for safety!!
Dec 2019
Due to part of the path to the view point having collapsed it is not the safest view point on the island. But there are places either side with spectacular views of he Fronterra coast if you take care.

Amazing views

The views, calmness and the majesty of the place are impressive. In bright days you can see la Gomera island. we weren’t that lucky.
Still it’s more than worth visiting.
Pay extreme attention since the place is closed to visitors due to falling rocks.

amazing view and history

I was stunned by the view over the bay and over to la Gomera and Tenerife. Okay, weather was brilliant - but being almost alone there with the peace and calmness I found myself in another world. You could both see and hear the falcons hunting over the hillsides - that was amazing. And when I knew the facts about how this bay was formed ages ago - became this place the numero uno in el Hierro for me.

We went there by the walking trail from El Sabinar. It is 1.2 km walk through the hills and pine groves with totally indifferent cows sleeping under the trees sheltering from the constant wind and low cloud. There is drinking water tap at the entrance but the path and the drive to the mirador is closed. The cobbled path to the lookout point is crumbling into the ravine below and one wrong step can send you falling 600 down from the cliff. So we had place to ourselves and once clouds parted views were truly breathtaking.

Like an aerial view - on a non-misty day

It takes a while to reach this spot. I had taken some friends to
the Hermita de la Virgen for them to walk the camino along to
Cruz de los Reyes. In the time until meeting them I visitied
El Sabinar (twisted Juniper tree) and this mirador. Of the two
the mirador was more interesting. However it is roped off as
part of the wall by the access path had fallen away. With
care and in daylight this is not a problem. It is necessary
to enter the roped-off area in order to get proper value from
the visit. As well as the view of El Golfo as a whole, it was
good to see Arenas Blancas and to get a perspective of
the area as if from a low-flying aeroplane. The nine-hundred
metres is about three-thousand feet and so the experience
is similar to the view from a glider.

Care is needed in that the road from the Hermita is only
a "dirt road" (like nearly all the roads were in 1989 when
I first visited this island). Some car hire companies do not
cover damage on such roads. As the track is only single
width for most of the way one has to choose a passing
place in event of oncoming traffic.

Great view, but partly closed due to landslide danger.

We wandered a tour called "End of the wolrd" as member of Walking World. One of two highlights of this hike was Mirador de Basco. Very spectacular. Though there was no admittance to the Mirador point itself (too dangerous, see picture), it was worth it. It's a question of time before everything will slide...

Mirador currently closed ... but still worth visiting ....
Dec 2015
There has been a rockfall BENEATH part of the path to the Mirador and so the Mirador has been shut for safety reasons. It wouldn't actually be that difficult to go on to it ... the 'barricades' are simply police style plastic tapes! But we chose not to take the chance on the 2000 ft fall if more collapsed under us!

However you can get a pretty good view from the top near the Mirador AND the drive there is pleasant and for me the most interesting thing there is the Wind bent ancient Juniper trees on the hillside. They are worth the trip in themselves.
