A wonderful indulgent birthday treat - we will be back!
I've been a couple of times to this spa before and while I've enjoyed myself, I've never been blown away. This was until we tried one of their new spa packages! and experienced the Spa Garden :-) The Afternoon Revival Spa Package includes use of spa from 11am to 5pm, with 90 minutes in the Spa Garden and a 60 minute treatment. We paid £276 for the 2 of us and I feel this to be excellent value for our experience. We were so lucky that when we went across to the Spa Garden the sun came out for us and the large bifold doors were wide open with a beautiful panoramic view of the pool infront and the hotel grounds in the background. We saw many baby bunnies in the grounds which was lovely to see. We were very lucky as we had the whole place to ourselves for 10 minutes or so before the other guests arrived, and even then it was very quiet, which made for the perfect experience. The Spa Garden is really beautiful, we enjoyed floating in the small infinity pool and relaxing in the lovely seating areas. There is also a tea/coffee/hot chocolate machine for guests to use, the only way it could be improved would be with some little nibbles / biscuits, but there is fruit. The choice of treatments included in the package was much larger than I expected too, maybe around 12, anyway it was very hard to choose! We both opted for Himalayan Salt Ritual and while a lovely package, I would choose something with more massage next time. My mum however thought it to be the perfect treatment, leaving her skin so soft and smooth, and would definitely do this again! I would like to thank Rachel my therapist who was lovely and gave a wonderfully relaxing treatment. We arrived at 11.30am and didn't leave until nearly 5pm but the day absolutely flew past! Such a wonderful way for me to catch up with my mum and a special birthday treat. We will definitely be back for my mum's birthday in a few months and will definitely be buying the same package, as while the spa area is nice enough, the Spa Garden is really special :-) and I can't wait to try another one of those treatments!

Still good, but not as good as the first visit
Got this on the New Year, New Me deal. This is my second visit. Good points: spa very clean, not too busy so plenty of room to use the facilties without feeling overcrowded, massage was wonderful, food in Nu Sana was great and very efficient service. The staff were all friendly. I like the free fruit and herbal drinks on offer. Bad points: deal included breakfast/brunch, yet I was charged £4 for a coffee? Surely a hot drink is included with breakfast?! Changing rooms have gone downhill - broken lockers and changing room locks, the toiletries in the changing rooms used to be really premium but now they're just labelled 'cleanser' and 'moisturiser' like you'd find in a Travel Lodge, plus they were nearly empty. Same with the shower gel in the shower. Not very luxurious! Outside jacuzzi broken - apparently this has been the case for a while.

    Relaxing spa day
Came here for a spa day for my friends and I’s thirtieth birthday. The spa facilities are wonderful and the spa garden is absolutely amazing! I would definitely go back for the facilities alone- it was so relaxing! The food was good but the extras are quite overpriced and the Diet Coke I received was a fortune considering the amount in the glass! Massage was very relaxing too! Overall a good day but would have liked the option to extend my spa day by an hour or two and was not given it!

    Relaxing spa day!
A lovely spa with fantastic facilities. The pools are brilliant as are all the saunas. The spa garden is amazing and really makes this places stand out from other spas! Unfortunately the hot tub was not working on this occasions which was such a shame and nothing was offered as compensation! Food was good but starters and sides and Diet Coke was quite overpriced for what they were! Massage was great and felt very relaxed! Would have liked the option to sit around the pool after massage or to be taken somewhere to relax after like at other spas!

    What a treat!
Visited with a friend for a spa day. What a treat!! The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The facilities were absolutely lovely, particularly the hydrotherapy area and saunas. Just what we needed. The staff warned us that the spa was busy when we arrived but it was absolutely fine. There were quite a few people around but this did not detract from our enjoyment or relaxation. We had lunch upstairs in the restaurant. One course only was included (which we knew on booking of course). Extras were very pricey which was the only down side of our day. Restaurant service was excellent. Overall, thoroughly enjoyable and very relaxing. I hope to return!

    Relaxing afternoon
Very relaxing afternoon together, perfect place for couples. Did get slightly busier as the day went on however still intimate and quiet. Staff were all very helpful and approachable, and the spa was clean and all in working order! Didn't get chance to see the outdoor spa facilities (which were an extra cost), however would happily come back!

    Amazing Spa
Visited Rockcliffe Hall with my husband and our daughter. We opted for the sunset package and Rasul mud treatment - what a treat, we loved every minute! Rasul treatment was good fun and then we relaxed in the steam rooms, ice room, jacuzzi and hydro pool (great jets!). The spa garden is amazing and what a beautiful view of the grounds from the infinity pool! Can't wait to go back.

On the whole a disappointing day. I had spent a fortune on what should have been a 5* experience.

On entry, my partner and I were given forms to fill out - with the young gentlemen promising to come over to where we were sitting to go through our itinerary for the day. After 15 minutes, and with our first treatment looming, I felt it necessary to approach the reception desk to hand in our forms. As I approached, the young male member of staff, who wouldn’t even look at me when I spoke to him, merely stated “I was coming over”.

Lunch was not conducive of a 5* hotel and spa. I ordered the 6oz. sirloin steak (with a £8.50 additional charge). After asking for it to be cooked medium rare it came well done (Gandi’s flip flop territory), and the second time (by which time my partner had eaten her meal and my sides had gone cold) it came raw. I was extremely dissatisfied with this - although credit to the managers who understood and accommodated my concerns. It was not ideal to spend over 2 hours waiting for a simple lunch when paying nearly £400 to make use of the spa for the day.

Overall I will not be coming back to the spa at Rockliffe Hall. I do not feel that it is good value for money, we did not get met with customer service worthy of a 5* hotel.

Coming from Leeds, we will be making more use of the local spa who can justify their prices.

Wow! What an utter disappointment from start to finish!
Breakfast in the Clubhouse: the Clubhouse was full of golfers and was about as far away from luxury as it gets. The food was fine, although we were charged extra for an additional slice of toast! No drinks were included (not the usual glass of champagne etc) and it was a walk through the golf course to reach. Our view eating breakfast was of the golf course, as opposed to the lovely countryside visible from the main restaurant.
The spa: don’t bother! The only thing included was the indoor swimming pool - which was cold and full of kids. You can’t use the outside pool without paying an additional fee. You can’t visit the garden room without paying an additional fee. You may as well just go to your local baths for a fiver!
There is a robe caste system: the more grey your robe, the worse your experience! 😬
The treatments: no complaints there. Massively overpriced though, of course.
Customer service: having voiced our disappointment (when asked by the lady on the spa reception) we were listened to, however nothing was done to improve our experience and the lady seemed all too keen to laugh it off and send us on our merry way.

I think the main problem is that, due to covid, many of the facilities can’t be used. So it seems ludicrous that the ones that can come at any additional fee. Not so much as a complimentary cup of coffee by the pool.

What a joke! £115 very badly spent ☹️

Dear 226GGG Thank you very much for your review As you are fully aware covid restrictions are in place as with all spas in the UK and this was outlined when you booked and confirmed in writing to you. Everything included or not as the case maybe was booked by you, knowing what was included, so Im a little confused what you were expecting. The view of the golf course is the same from the clubhouse or the main house, again, im not sure what you are expecting, 365 acres of parkland.... beautiful. The package does not include champagne. The spa Garden is a separate experience and yes has to be paid for which again is outlined in your confirmation so if you wish to upgrade, you can do this in advance, or on the day if we have availability, but availability is significantly reduced to to social distancing. The pool is at 31 degrees as it always is, the hydrotherapy pool was fully open also which it seems you didn't use. The Hydro therapy pool is 34 degrees. I am sorry we didn't offer anything complimentary, but there was no reason too. The team are working tirelessly now and through lockdown and are working to very strict government guidelines so very sorry your were disappointed I hope this clarifies the facts Wishing you a good weekend ahead

Last week went as a spa package which included breakfast.

Spa and treatments were their usual VERY HIGH standards, but I’m afraid that once again came away REALLY disappointed with the food and beverages part.

When we arrived there seemed to be more staff than guests (outside of the kitchen) but everything was soooooo slow.

Menu arrived and drink order taken. 20 minutes later the hot chocolate and coffee arrived.

Worried we would miss our spa slot we asked the young blonde waitress who delivered the drinks if we could order our food: she had no pad, so memorised the order. Others (golfers) arrived after us and received their food before us.

I requested my sausages well done ……. and u guessed it, they arrived (30 minutes later) looking like they’d been boiled …… so they went back. We were offered a free coffee but just wanted to eat and leave.

My other half had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs……instead of slices of smoked salmon (which u might usually expect) it was chunks of warmed salmon

I’m not sure what the kitchen did to them in the 5 minutes the plate was gone (deep fried?), but sausages were lovely …… sadly the rest of the breakfast was massively overcooked and spoil.

There was a very young lad serving who did his very best, but senior staff were invisible.

It’s a shame that we have this amazing place on our doorstep but quality of service is awful (it’s one of the reasons we stopped going there for dinner)……would get looked after better at a 2 star hotel, after all, it was just a cooked breakfast, not a 7 course tasting menu.

My friend and I had a lovely day at the spa , the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the facilities were really relaxing and really clean . I had a really lovely massage off Caitlin and bought the recommended body care range she thought was ideal for me . There was a dark haired lady with curly hair who was at the pool bar near the Spa garden who was really helpful.
However we were not advised when we booked a reservation for lunch prior to our visit that the Brasserie in the Spa building was closed. So we had to get dressed walk nearly half a mile to the Clubhouse and back for lunch and by the time we got back we had lost 2hours of our spa time which did spoil the experience somewhat.

A lovely relaxing day in a beautiful setting. The spa has the usual facilities. My wife had a treatment and she was very impressed with it. We did want to visit the infinity pool however were told that we would have to pay another £25 each to get that.

There is water & flavoured water & fruit available for free. We did get a smoothie and that was lovely too. The coffee I got was in a disposable cup, whilst the coffee was nice I would have preferred it in a proper cup.

It's entirely possible that the they are suffering the same problem as so many places are at the moment, i.e. staff. Not that the staff were terrible because they were not. But they were a bit thin on the ground and some didn't seem very experienced. The other issue was dining, my wife and I were told we couldn't dine in the Orangery as it was fully booked and were steered to the Nu Sana restaurant. The food was nice, the service was good but there was only one other table occupied so the ambience was pretty much non existent. One staff member told us that were were trying to drum up business as it was a new facility and it didn't seem to us that the Orangery was close to full so we felt that maybe we had been not been dealt with totally honestly. Overall the place is stunning and in compensation for the lack of atmosphere a Manager (Gary I think) gifted us a bottle of wine.

Having had lunch in the clubhouse to celebrate my daughter's birthday we then went to the outside play area - we then came back to the clubhouse and found an empty table outside to then have some coffee and cake for a belated desert. We sat down and a member of staff then came over and said due to some rediculous Covid policy we were not able to sit there. We would have to walk around back around to the front of the clubhouse, to then walk through the clubhouse and then be seated by the staff! Totally ludicrous, as the table we were sat at was free! This doesn't make any sense. A part from the fact that my wife who is 25weeks pregnant was already sat down and would have to make a pointless trip back around the building to then arrive at the same place, we had already spent around £100 on lunch and were existing customers! Is this how you treat your 'valued customers' Rockcliffe Hall, or is this how you treat expecting mothers? Either way you need to revisit your customer service manual. Needless to say we decided to walk around the building back to our car to have coffee and cake elsewhere. It will be a while before we are back. Not 5star service today!

Spa afternoon including afternoon tea with family, appalling.
Dry sandwiches, waited for a long time for drinks to be served, which came after we had finished sandwiches.
Spa is very small, with limited facilities, we had paid for spa garden only to be told their booking system wasn’t working so we couldn’t use the garden, and it was fully booked. No apology.
The place was packed and clearly over booked, people, including ourselves had to stand around waiting for chairs and loungers to be come vacant. A lack of clean towels in the changing rooms, and those which were there were threadbare.
£3.50 for a small glass of warm Coca Cola and no ice was available. We left early because there was nowhere to sit.
The list could go one.
Less than acceptable for £130 per person for 3 hours.
We’ll not be returning.

The spa is simply beautiful and the treatments are the best with really lovely therapists. There was a downside to the day which spoilt it a little.
Just be aware that the brasserie is now closed for refurbishment , so spa guests can no longer eat here.
We were told to go to the main restaurant at a specific time.It was almost like spa guests had been forgotten about with people waiting over an hour and a half for food meaning they had to leave for treatments and then go back for dessert.I waited an hour for my food which was a little disappointing and not the best ending to the day.
The staff seemed more focused on the main restaurant area. The waitress who served us was so lovely and just kept apologising, I actually felt sorry for her.
Spa days are not cheap so it was a little frustrating.

We visited this spa with high hopes of it being the best, but unfortunately it wasn't. Yes it is 5*, but unfortunately the spa didn't really relax us. The saunas were all the same temperature, even though they were supposed to be different. When I sprinkled water over the coals, they just stayed wet and didn't even hiss! The hydro pool area was far from relaxing. There is a pointless water fountain in the middle of the pool, which just made it very noisy! The tiny infra red sauna was like being in a wardrobe, just a bit hotter. Can't say the steam rooms weren't particularly steamy either. Then there was the igloo, this was the best room, but we didn't get hot enough to really need to be in there more than 2 minutes.
We paid extra to use the spa garden, the sauna there was a bit hotter, but the heated loungers were not heated at all. The small outdoor hydro pool was wonderful to use though, with lovely views. Luckily there wasn't anyone else in there, or it would have been rather crowded with another 4 +couples.
We finished our spa early, and planned to try it again the next day after breakfast, hoping the saunas would be better and the steams to have more steam. But we're shocked to learn that they wanted an extra £80 to go in there, as can only use the facilities until check out at 11am! (We were not informed of this at all, until check out) Had we have known this, we would have obviously gone in there early morning, rather than wondering around the grounds. We have never experienced this before in other 5* spas, normally usage is until at least 14:00 the next day! When I expressed our disappointment about this, over a lengthy discussion with the manager we were offered a rather offensive "gesture of goodwill" ......10% off !! It really would not have hurt to have allowed the usage of the spa, especially given the previous days experience.
Due to the way this was handled, unfortunately we won't be going back, and continue our search for a Luxury, relaxing spa in the North of England !
Tip:Try and go midweek, as by the sounds of it, the spa gets very busy at weekends. It would then be extremely noisy!
