We had a pleasant Sunday morning visit here. We watched the bird demonstration and my daughter got ‘owl flapped’ she was over the moon. There we a few activities and there was an opportunity to sponsor a bird. We then visited Walworth Castle for Sunday lunch.

What a fantastic day hunting rabbits and pheasants with Hawks and assisted by ferrets and a dog. Dave and his assistants were absolutely brilliant in explaining what we were doing, how the birds hunted and then assisting with the hunting. They really involve you in it. What a way to see what these birds of prey do best.
Absolutely brilliant day! Thanks

We visited on a sunny day and had a picnic in the castle grounds then visited the birds of prey centre. We were warmly welcomed and had time to wander around the great selection of birds, reading the information about them. The birds were very well kept, clean and alert. We saw a display which included three birds... An exciting, informative display with the opportunity to participate. Everyone loved it. We then took the nature trail challenge resulting in the children winning some very generous prizes. All in all, a lovely day and highly recommended for families with young children.

We visited due to the fantastic reviews, and were welcomed by a lady full of enthusiasm listing the many activities available... a trail, a quiz, archery, ladybird box making, ferret racing etc, so we were more than happy to pay the entrance fees. We then entered and realised it was the size of our back garden! We were the only visitors there and despite lots of staff around, noone offered to tell us about the birds (all in pens). We couldn't get up close to any birds and the kids just didn't really get anything out of it. I then noticed a member of staff talking to my 8 year old daughter which made me feel better, until I realised he was starting a sales pitch, telling her it's only £6 to make a ladybird box! He tried to convince her for about 10 minutes. I was annoyed as I think its unethical to sell to kids. Archery was on offer but was also an additional cost and not suitable for young kids so not applicable to us. None of the bird or ferret displays were on until 3 hours later so we just left. We were there a total of 30 minutes and though we were told we could return later I didn't think there was much point bothering. Too small, bit odd, not interactive and sadly selling to kids isn't my idea of a fun day out.

Dear Wilton Lass Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to review my business. I am mortified you found the experience "Terrible" and wondered if I you would allow me the chance to try again? Hopefully this time you will stay to see both of our flying displays too while you are here. I can only apologise for the way you feel we tried to “sell “an activity to your daughter, Robin is a volunteer who gives up all his time to offer the various wildlife activities and donates all the money he raises to charities. I have taken your comments on board and will discuss it with him straight away. As for the centre being the size of a back garden, the centre and display arena (which I don’t think you saw if you didn’t stay for the displays) are set in three acres of land, the nature trail which runs through 9 acres of ancient woodland (this, along with a booklet is included in the entry price) are far from tiny, I know we aren’t the biggest centre in the world but with over 26 birds, all of which are flown daily we try to make up for it with extra activities and displays. I was the lady who greeted you in the shop, I hope I did explain to you about Frankie's Quiz and the nature trail both of which are include in the entry price and both can take anything from 15 mins to 45 depending on the age of the child, the idea of the quiz is to get the children interacting and reading each birds sign on the aviaries where they can find the answers to the ten questions. The nature trail has 10 fabulous wooden carved creatures hidden throughout the 9 acre woodland and comes with a free booklet with clues and an anagram at the end, again aimed at interacting with the children and getting them out into nature. Added to all this you can also come and go all day for no extra charge, there is the obvious choice of a snack, tea or coffee at the hotel or even an ice cream at nearby archers ice cream. The ferret racing was on at 11.30, 1pm, 2.30 and 4pm free of charge and there was also someone on hand at all times to allow you to meet the ferrets, all you had to do was ask. With regard to your archery comments: We aim to offer extra activities on special days and I hope you will understand the extra £3 for 5 arrows with tuition is to cover the cost of hiring in a professional company (with all the relevant equipment and insurances) to offer this service. There was an age limit of 8 and above therefore your eight year old daughter should have been eligible to participate. Personally all the feedback regarding the archery was to say that it was too cheap at £3 for 5 arrows plus tuition. Yesterday’s displays lasted approx. 1 hour each and had between three and four birds in each, all different and all incredibly interactive, there was ample opportunities to have birds fly to you and to involve the little ones with over 75 people in yesterday’s displays we made sure everyone had the opportunity to be involved. I am unsure as to your comment about being unable to get close to the birds; I appreciate if you had just arrived early morning we may have still been busy getting birds weighed and ready for displays, there is a lot of maintenance needed to keep everything as clean as it is. The birds are all free lofted in aviaries which is something we try to do with all of them, this allows them the ability to stretch their wings, bathe, seek sunlight or shade when they desire. We cannot allow the public to touch birds without our supervision for your own safety but also for the bird’s safety and wellbeing. I hope I have answered all your concerns and again please accept my apologies for your “terrible” experience with us, as a small business which we have built entirely ourselves I aim to ensure personally that every customer who comes through the door enjoys themselves as much as the last and if that isn’t so then the buck stops with me, I shall do my utmost to ensure that if you give me a second chance to welcome you and your family to the centre again that you will have a super experience, partake in all the interactive activities and also see some fabulous flying displays. My telephone number is 07815 756 386 and email is enquiries@walworthcastlebirdsofprey.co.uk I would love to discuss this with you further to see if I can improve the experience more for everyone to enjoy. Once again thank you for your custom and I sincerely hope to welcome you again soon. Kind Regards Tori Goodall

Visited with family and was met by a jolly lady who explained a bit about the experience.
We wandered around and looked at the birds in their cages while waiting for the bird display to start.
Personally I don't like to see any animal or bird caged, I think they should be free to stretch their wings or paws of their own free will, not when a human says they can, however they looked clean.
There was a hut with stuff to do for younger kids but my 12yr olds thought it too babyish so didn't want to entertain that idea.
The show was ok, nice to see the birds but it was marred by the man doing the display thinking he was some kind of comedian. His unfunny jokes and banter were embarrassing, that's when we could understand what he was saying as his diction was so poor.
If you're going to have someone presenting a show, from others I've been to, it's a far more enjoyable experience when the host speaks loudly and clearly and relevantly, no cringeworthy jokes or mumbling.
We wouldn't bother with this place again and would rather visit the falconry place at Thirsk which, in my family's opinion, has better, friendlier, staff and is far more worthy of our money.
I hope the owners are humble enough to accept that what they do won't always live up to all their guests' expectations, as it didn't for us.

Hi LivingupNorth Thank you for taking the time to review your visit back in May, David and I plus our Team here are always conscious of the need to be humble, accept criticism and to use it positively to keep improving our business and visitor attraction. With this in mind i am very grateful for your feedback, i do however suppose i need to take it with a pinch of salt as out of 32,000 visitors in 2 years this is the first time anyone has commented negatively about David - "it was marred by the man doing the display thinking he was some kind of comedian. His unfunny jokes and banter were embarrassing, that's when we could understand what he was saying as his diction was so poor. If you're going to have someone presenting a show, from others I've been to, it's a far more enjoyable experience when the host speaks loudly and clearly and relevantly, no cringe-worthy jokes or mumbling. We have discussed your review and we all feel it may have been helpful for you to have discussed this with any member of our team in person before you left or over the phone afterwards so we could try to better understand the reasoning behind your comments, its hard to comprehend why someone who doesn't like the keeping of birds in captivity ("Personally I don't like to see any animal or bird caged") would then choose to visit a number of Falconry centres where birds of prey are being housed for educational purposes. Your next comment - "I think they should be free to stretch their wings or paws of their own free will, not when a human says they can, however they looked clean" all of our birds are flown daily unless having time off during the Moult, they are also all free lofted a minimum of 12 hours per day as well as being flown free. This allows them to stretch their wings at their own free will and have the ability to exercise and enrich their lives in captivity. With regard to your other comments - "There was a hut with stuff to do for younger kids but my 12yr olds thought it too babyish so didn't want to entertain that idea" we do have a 4m x7m log cabin purpose built as a workshop for all ages, this was something we installed this year as an extra area to allow visitors to read more information on the birds and also to offer colouring in activities at no extra cost for our younger visitors, we also have two quizzes (with prizes) around the centre itself, one designed for younger children and the second aimed at teenagers like your daughter to enable them to have some fun whilst learning more about birds of prey. We also have a woodland walk through 8 acres of ancient woodland, a nature trail with workbook. There is also the wild bird feeding station with over 20 feeders at which you are welcome to sit and watch the birds feeding in between displays and once you have met our fabulous family of birds you could have also met the ferrets and learnt more about them. Like i said earlier as a business we are always open to feedback and are always looking to improve the service we offer, the one thing i would ask you to do in the future is to contact the owners direct as well as leaving a review. This would help them better understand your feedback and subsequently make any necessary changes. Second to that i would ask that you try to remember that behind every comment you write is a person with feelings. Your comments about my husbands eloquence are unjust and uncalled for, while he may not be to your taste all the 272 reviews on trip advisor, Facebook reviews and visitor feedback cant be wrong and i will not tolerate customers being mean or unkind to any member of our fabulous, hard working team. David and i both have over 30 years falconry experience and we both find it beneficial to add a sprinkling of humour into our talks and displays, i am truly sorry that you found this not to be to your taste, as a general rule especially with teenagers and children we find customers respond incredibly well to a little humour and feel it helps to keep people engaged during the displays. I am so pleased that you also enjoy visiting the fabulous team at Thirsk, i must admit it is one of our favorite falconry centres in the North east and i shall now be looking to see what they offer differently for an older age group that we may be able to learn from to perhaps better accommodate you next time should you choose to give us a second chance. Once again thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. should you wish to discuss your feedback further please feel free to contact me on 01325 608 100. Kindest regards Tori Goodall

I booked a falconry day for my partner as his surprise Christmas present. After hours of reviewing several venues, I settled on Walworth Castle Birds of Prey, which had grabbed my attention from the first look. It really didn't disappoint, from the initial hello to the final goodbye we were totally absorbed by Tori & David's knowledge, love of their beautiful birds and the facility itself. Their enthusiasm is infectious & I defy anyone not to enjoy spending time at the centre. The grin never left my partners face as he flew various owls & then took a Harris Hawk for a walk in the woods.

We cannot recommend this experience highly enough & will be returning time & again to experience all the centre has to offer.

Very disappointing. Expensive when there are a few of you and a very small selection of birds to see. Displays are infrequent and not very long.

Hi M Blackburn Thank you for taking the time to review our business, i wondered if you would mind contacting me to tell me when you visited, as we are closed for the winter season from the 1st November 2915 until the 25th March 2016, also our displays are at 1.30pm and 3pm every day and always last a minimum of 45 minutes i am unsure as to how you felt they were infrequent as this has never changed in years. If there has been some misunderstanding of the time of our displays i would like to make sure this doesn't happen for any other customers. I am very sorry you felt we were expensive for a large group, we offer discount for group bookings with over 10 guests, but like anything, the more of you there are the more it will cost. with 27 birds in the center on display, all with information signs and a minimum of 3 birds in each display, a nature trail, bird feeding station and hide, the ability to come and go all day once you have paid entry id like to think that £6.50 is very reasonable. I would really appreciate the opportunity to rectify your visit again and would love to discuss how we can improve this experience for others. My contact number is 07815 756 386 or my email is enquiries@wcbop.co.uk Kind regards Tori Goodall

Whilst staying at the Walworth castle hotel, we saw the Birds of Prey centre in the grounds and went for a look. The birds were fabulous and the owner Tori was entertainment herself even without the birds. As the poor weather had scared off a lot of people, when it came to the flying display Tori asked us and the other couple who were going to watch it, if we minded her flying two of the younger inexperienced birds which of course we agreed to.
First up was a young Peregrine falcon who sat on her arm, the hood come off, it shook it's head, looked round and flew straight across to the castle to roost. It came back after a minute or two and did a good display. The other bird was a European Eagle Owl which was so gracefull in flight. This is a must see venue!

My husband and I did the full-day falconry experience and totally LOVED our time with Tory and David. We especially recommend this experience to our fellow Americans since we don't have this opportunity in the USA. Tory and David went the extra mile throughout the day. They educated us constantly, rich with a variety of stories to illustrate their points. Child friendly.

If you don't have time to do the entire day, the demonstrations at 1:30 and 3:00 provide an excellent opportunity to interact with the birds. Even the children were given a chance to fly the birds.

Myself and my husband did the, "hawk walk," which was excellent.

From the minute you arrive Tori's enthusiasm is infectious, it's very that this couple love what they do, I know nothing about birds, but it's easy to see how well these birds are looked after.

After a tour of all the birds in the centre we were taken out into the wooded area with, "Alice," a beautiful and quite friendly Hawk. I honestly can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning than walking through the woods in the spring sunshine with Alice flying between you.

Everyone was made to feel very welcome, the two hours flew over and we all came away knowing much more about birds of prey than we did previously.
