- Melanie F8 contributionsWorth the effortIt is tricky to figure out tickets. You need to purchase them ahead of time in the town with cash, then drive to the bunker. Once at the bunker you wait outside the gates, then drive to the bunker, parking is tight. The bunker is worth the effort. It is such a fascinating piece of history. Our guide walked us through, narrating about the bunker the entire time. There is modern art exhibits throughout the bunker, it is not my style, so I could have done without it, but that's just my opinion.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 26, 2024
- jeanedHoogkarspel, The Netherlands307 contributionsorganization very chaotic, but interestingWe had booked a tour at noon on a Sunday in August. Picked up the tickets at 11 am and drove for about 15 minutes to the entrance gate (first drive 3 km, then left over the bridge and left again). There is a small parking lot there, where we could still go. In the next 45 minutes it became extremely busy. The parking lot was full so people parked their cars along the narrow access road. Eventually that became such a long line, that newcomers came to the entrance gate and could not go forward or backward. So that was chaos. At noon the entrance gate opened and you were also allowed to park on site (why not open earlier???). So that problem was solved. Then we had to get into an old bus to be driven to the bunker. Once there, the tour was started for Bosnian speakers. The English tour would start after 5 minutes. Anyway.... two more busloads of visitors (!) were picked up and brought and always the Bosnian people were immediately taken for a tour, while the foreign speakers had to wait. It was about 12:40 when we were allowed to walk along. There was no fixed route for the tours, everything was mixed up. So you didn’t know if you really got to see everything possible. But we did find it very interesting and got a lot of information. The unfortunate thing was (we thought...) that the bunker houses a permanent exhibition of contemporary art. As a result, it was not always clear which attributes were authentic or what was exhibited. Even in Tito's private quarters, a series of paintings hung on the wall that clearly did not fit there. Back again by bus and then trying to drive back together on the narrow road, while there were still cars parked and the people arrived for the next tour. Which became a drama with passing. That must be better....Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 19, 2024
- Maude K2 contributionsImposing facility you must visitFor the last few years I have been coming to the bunker and bringing friends to show them this imposing fort. It was worth coming again and again because I learn something new each time. The other guides were completely correct previous few times, but this time I would like to highlight charismatic Enida whose professionalism I must praise. She simply exudes a wealth of knowledge and charm and we were very comfortable during the tour. Enida, thank you very much for your patience and detailed answers to our questions. For all those interested in the Biennale of Contemporary Art, Enida revealed to us that art tours will be available soon.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 21, 2024
- Anthony RAndover, United Kingdom88 contributionsA mind blowing experience. An English speaking guide so this made it easy for us. The tour was so informative and well presented. The bunker itself is a mind-blowing affair. Deep in the mountain, extensive tunnels and fitted out in the event of a Nuclear bomb, fitted with the best technology of the time that is still operational. It was staggering to hear that it was not made public until more than 30 after its completion, in 2011. this is one of more than 20 bunkers around the country and this one alone cost $4.5bn when it was built - 1953 to 1979.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 18, 2024
- iowacityia2,781 contributionsTuesday, September 24th noon visit. Our tour guide transported us here from Sarajevo for the 12:00 noon tour. Tours are time scheduled. We got on the bus a short distance away from the bunker entrance, then were driven to the bunker entrance where we met our English speaking tour guide. Our guide was Thelma. She was very good. We had a very large group, but she managed to keep us all together, and her voice projected very well to our group. She was very knowledgeable and without hesitation, gave us plenty of information on what we were seeing. We got to see quite a bit of the bunker. At one point in the tour we took a short break in a meeting room, where we sat at little desks. There we could ask questions. That worked out well. I think the tour lasted about 2hrs. Upon exiting the bunker, the process was reversed and we were bussed back to the starting point. I really enjoyed this bunker tour. Thelma made it quite enjoyable.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2024

The facility was built in strict confidentiality and the construction lasted for 26 years. 4.6 billion USD was spent for Tito's underground city.
The bunker covers a total of 6500 square meters and has more than 100 bedrooms, two large conference rooms, operational centers with direct phone connections to the presidents of all Yugoslavian federal republics.
According to official information Tito has not visited his bunker ever but according to unofficial rumors he visited Konjic several times and at that time he probably came to bunker through ammunition factory located nearby.
The bunker has been converted into a gallery for international artists since 2011 and a lot of those Cold War related artworks are pretty controversial which is an excellent way to remind us that nothing in history is just black and white.
Our guide Enida was remarkable - smart, knowledgeable and thoroughly answered all of our questions. Her witty sense of humor made a tour less formal and more relaxing and amusing. Enida, thank you for an amazing tour.
Is Tito's underground city worth a visit? Undoubtedly!

Very original visit to Tito's bunker, built between 1953 and 1979. The tourist office called us a taxi to take us 4 kilometers in front of a gate. There, a guide took us to a very ordinary house. From the garage, we entered a tunnel leading to the famous bunker made up of 12 blocks. Artists also exhibit their works there. The place has only been visited since 2011 after having been hidden from the population for a long time.

My wife and I made an incredible visit a few days ago, on top of that we were able to do the visit alone with the guide who treated us wonderfully.
The state of the facilities is incredible, I recommend it to anyone.
They are improving everything for future visits and I hope they add audio guides in different languages.

The parking situation at the start is horrendous. There is no information about it at all and the guard doesn't speak English. At first everyone lines up and side of the road with the gates shut and stands around inside. Then they open, and you have to get back into your cars and move the cars in. Unfortunately you get very little choice as to where your car is parked, which is not very accommodating disability wise. You then have to walk up a hill to the entry way (the guides drive their own car up leaving you to find your own way up the road).
The bunker itself is interesting, however, the art detracts from his historical importance. It was very warm in some parts, especially with so many people in a confined area as the tour group was big. In all, it was ok but I have been on other better bunker tours.

I had the privilege of being the only guest during a tour with Enida (I hope I have spelt your name correctly).
Enida gave me a very comprehensive, wide-ranging, clear and memorable description of all of the issues relating to the bunker.
In addition, we had some very interesting discussions about the geopolitical issues during the time of its construction.
I arrived quite well-informed and left with a much greater knowledge and understanding.
In addition to the “serious history” there is a fascinating, moving, thought-provoking and challenging art exhibition in the bunker—a stroke of genius.
Hvala lepa Enida!!

The guide on our tour was extremely kind Enida who gave us all the information about the secret construction of bunker, the role of bunker during the war in Bosnia, the history of Yugoslavia and technology used to build bunker. It's a marvelous facility worth a visit.
The only two negatives are an hour and a half tour which is too short to see everything in the bunker and difficulty to find a way from town to bunker.

Really interesting place and tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Apparently the art installations that were added in 2011 divide public opinion. I thought they made the place even more unique, but others thought it spoiled the feeling of how it was when it was built.
Apparently there are different agencies through which you can book the tour. My understanding is, that in the end, the agency just makes sure that you are there on time, while the actual tour is handled by some official authority and hence is the same, whichever agency you choose.

We had few friends from abroad and decided to go on a tour on English language which turned out to be big mistake.
We're obviously unable to avoid chatty, annoying guides because few years ago our guide was Selma and now the one with hijab. The place itself is really impressive but sadly our experience was in best hand mediocre due to chatty guide who on top of everything barely knows English language and few times we ran into other group and she even interrupted the other guide.

We stopped for this tour while we were driving from Mostar to Sarajevo with a tour guide. The tour lasted a little over an hour and was very good. We were glad we had a tour guide with us as buying tickets and driving to the bunker was a little confusing. Definitely a good use of time if you’re in the area.

Arrived 12pm, waited, waited and waited. Not organised, the man running it is a rude inconsiderate oaf, no communication, poor website. A wasted, disappointing trip. Needs to sort its life out as an attraction.

Hi,
Is it possible to buy a ticket at the gate of ARK?
Thanks in advance,

It is better to contact the Konjic touristic Agency by phone to schedule the visit to the shelter. One cannot visit alone, visits are organised and must be announced in advance to the shelter. It is worth, for sure.
