Somewhat disappointing but I was glad to have visited this Battle of Britain airfield
Sep 2021
An interesting visit with informative display boards of this Battle of Britain fighter airfield. One of the blast pens is being renovated along with a memorial stone, with sculped figures on a dais. Sadly some of the explanatory metal boards have either been sat on or jumped on, leaving one of them particular badly bent. Somewhat disappointing in the relatively little information available. I had hoped for more but am, nevertheless, happy to have visited.

Battle of Britain airfield visit
Jul 2021
I had an interesting walk around the airfield perimeter where remnants of it's RAF past can still be seen and there are helpful information boards which set out aspects of history and highlight some of the characters who served here. There is also a memorial to the squadrons who flew from Kenley. Gliding was taking place at the time of my visit which added to the interest. The site is well used by walkers, runners, dog walkers and cyclists but it was by no means crowded. The nearby St Luke's Church near Whyteleafe station has an RAF plot in the churchyard with the graves of servicemen from before, during and after WW2, including Polish and Czech pilots. The Wattenden Arms pub also nearby is a good place for drinks and lunch and has many pictures of the airfield.

Good.

Good open space. Watch out for Croydon traffic wardens though! You will get a parking fine if you park on the pavement areas outside the marked white lines zones.

Great Open Space
Sep 2019
Great "Free" open space on the downs where you can just chill out on bikes, feet, scooters etc with kids or dogs and just enjoy nature and catch some great fresh air. If you want to explore a little there's still quite a few WWII remnants on the periphery of the airfield which will help your imagination to take you back to when this place was a full on RAF station with Spitfires & Hurricanes scrambling to see off the menace of invading Luftwaffe fighters & bombers.

Amazing history
Dec 2018
I flew here in the 1970s, went solo in a Kirby Cadet Mk3 and celebrated later in the Wattenden Arms with a pub even though I was only 16!
So glad the heritage has been preserved.

I agree with all that has been said so far.
But think what the rest of the site has to offer.
Take one of the organised Tours, which are availably regularly with a knowledgeable guide.
They will show you the restored fighter pens, done with the help of Lottery funds and enthusiastic volunteers, and other places like the Tribute, where the brave few who defended the heritage we enjoy today are remembered.
There are flyovers, weather permitting, by the Heritage Flight with the Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane flying over in August and November. Also gliders to see.
