This is a very curious pub indeed, and all the better for it. Excellent beer, snacks on the bar (I visited on a Sunday afternoon) and some distinctly interesting and friendly locals. It is rather like a micro-pub, although it isn't one. I love it!

As per Martyn the convivial host and landlord; the pub opened in November 2005 making this the first Micro Pub. This is an absolute gem with a fantastic range of beer's plus some very friendly fellow drinkers. Not to be missed.

Visited here recently to see where the Micropub revolution started. This is the smallest micropub I have been in yet, but it works well, since within no time at all you will be enjoying lively conversation with the landlord and other customers over a great pint of ale. Get there early as it quickly fills up. Easy bus journey from... More

The very first Micropub in the world. The very best beer served in the world - as far as my experience can offer of course!

This is where the micropub revolution began - and now with over 200 nationwide, it's good to come here and see where it started. It's a quirky and lively place, great for locals and for people coming from further away. The ale is always spot on - this is a 'proper' pub where you can drink and chat. Close to... More

If you are looking for a quality pint of real ale look no further than this establishment. I've been an occasional drinker here for years and the beer has always been top rate. Add to the mix the great banter you always get at The Butchers with landlord Martin (who has led the micro pub revolution in the UK) and... More

When Martyn Hillier opened this first ever micropub 10 years ago he quickly established a wonderful oasis for people who enjoy a great selection of real ales and good banter both with regulars and visitors. Not only is The Butcher's Arms a Community Pub of note but it's also a true Destination Pub for lovers of real ale served in... More

Landlord Martin Hlillyer opened the Butchers as the first micropub, pioneering the movement, and he remains at the forefront. A great little pub, impossible not to find a decent pint on the list, all served from casks by Martin. Definitely not a men only pub. Sit on benches, butchers blocks for tables (only 2). A lively atmosphere fueled by humour... More

This micro pub on a corner was really once a butcher's shop and inside you'll find a well-worn butcher's block that is a little 'worn away' so be careful how you put down your pint glass. The interior is... well, quirky to say the least! Lots of fun stuff hanging from the walls and ceiling. But the main reason for... More

The first of a growing number of micropubs - no music, no fruit machines, no lager, no shots, just friendly conversation in intimate surroundings. It's tiny, very tiny, and just might manage ten or so customers. When you speak, people listen; when they speak you join in. Just how pubs used to be. Excellent real ales dispensed by gravity from...
