This is a very much working farm. No frills. The accommodation is relatively basic but ok and big plus was the air conditioning in the bedroom. Accommodation comes with half board which was quite an experience. all local products. For breakfast we usually had bread with sheep ricotta and jam or prosciutto and pecorino. Very stron sheep yoghurt was also available. Good coffee! Dinners were feast. Three courses with usual three choices. We had some cool goat and sheep dishes. The drinks are also included in the half board! Overall really homey local experience. Lots of cats and dogs so our daughter was super happy. You can also go with the herders in the morning with the sheep up the hill. It’s also great experience.

Love this place and cant wait to go back! The food was outstanding and ricotta chocolate chip pie for dessert is the best i have ever had. I was amazed watching the sheep in the morning and the cheese room is to die for. I loved walking around and seeing the different animals on their property. The owner is the nicest person and so hospitable. The bed was comfy, the room clean and the water was hot. Highly recommend.

I was there last June, following up on a couple of newspapers articles on the ‘transumanza’ experience at ASCA, about taking part in the ancient tradition of walking sheep to their summer pastures. I was on my own as a friend pulled out last minute and almost gave up on the whole thing but in the end I was so glad I went anyway. I was warmly welcomed right from arrival and allowed to stay for no extra charge in the comfortable double bedroom attic I had originally booked. Our very mixed group of aspiring shepherds was taken to the local village square for an evening of aperitifs and traditional instruments playing WITH the local folk band…basically you are not allowed to be shy and get a real Abruzzese experience from the moment go :)
Evening followed with a delicious dinner of Asca’s own products of herb flavored pecorino cheeses, roast lamb and robust local wine, all while being given information on the Transumanza tradition. Early rise, great breakfast and off on foot with sheep, shepherds and dogs. The walk though scenic gorges, villages and woodland was easy and peaceful, allowing times for breaks, snacks and a proper lunch on a mountain slope, brought to us by our charming chaperone, Nunzio. Earthy dinner was cooked in a barn on the atmospheric deserted village of Frattura Vecchia and sleeping arrangement was on camp beds in a large tent (alternative sleeping arrangement at a b&b nearby). The following morning, following a solid breakfast, we were off for the last leg of our itinerary, through shady woodland and up to the mountain refuge where the sheep would spend the summer. There we cooked a really good cooked lunch and got a lift back to Asca grounds.
I loved the full cultural immersion in local traditions, the great food and the heartwarming camaraderie, which developed from sharing such a deep ‘back to basics’ trip. The organizers manage to provide a complete and authentic experience, within the stunning Abruzzese backdrop, still a genuinely undiscovered region.

Our stay at this working sheep farm was a wonderful experience and served as a great home base to explore Abruzzo. Our hope going into our stay was to get a peek into Italian country living and our expectations were more than met. The accommodations were comfortable and the restaurant heavily featured the wonderful meat and cheese products they produce onsite. We also stocked up in their cheese shop on some aged Pecorino to bring back home.
The staff were all very welcoming and offered some great recommendations for attractions in the area.
