It's difficult to rate a museum trying to represent such a tragic and important event in the history of Europe and WWI, a battle even standing itself for the horrors of war...
But this is actually already a point where the Museum doesn't stand to the actual events it is representing. It seems too small and was too crowded for the individual visitor to be able to fully immerge in the information provided by the exhibition.
The tour has no clear guideline considering themes and chronological order. Yes, there is a recommended visiting direction but it simply doesn't work very well as you always will have to cross other visiting groups, look for the next mark where to stop, will be distracted by sound-effects happening on other stops across the room and so on. It's simply too chaotic.
As said, the museum seems too small for what it is trying to show you. And having visited the Verdun Memorial as a child some 20 years ago a couple of times before it has been rebuilt or reorganized and having been really impressed back then, I couldn't ignore where the museum now seems like trying to fit in provisionally all its information and exhibits.
Verdun truly deserves a better museum than this.

Arrived 45 minutes before closing and they would not let us in (even though we were willing to pay full price and leave at closing time). I bought a souvenir book on the way out and we grabbed a map. We managed to see quite a lot outside of the museum, but this was a disappointment as we literally planned our route around this site (but my husband's flight was late). Life is life. Verdun was still amazing, even without this museum.

Well laid out with lotsof information and was in english. Paid for this and two forts and got a discount. Military service vets get a further discount. Sadly some of the toilets were damaged.cafeteria was a bit basic. Parking was good.

You probably need at least a day to fully absorb this wonderful exhibition of a truly awful time in history.
My one criticism is that the descriptive panels adjacent to each displayed are often too small, poorly placed and badly lit.
If you want to know about Verdun you have to visit here.

Allow at least two hours to visit this amazing museum. The whole battle of Verdun is explained with very interesting and cleverly laid out displays, film shows and artefacts. Possibly one of the best museums about WW1 I have visited.

We spent a very long time here reading looking and listening about how people from all side had a really terrible time and that no one is a winner in war. Just a lot of dead young people and for what. A fantastic place to visit and learn.

WW1 Museum in France. We only had an hour at the museum and had to drag my kids out of there. Could have easily spent 2-3 hours there. very cool, interactive exhibits and lots of great info on the war. This area is surrounded by poc-marked fields (from mines) and the actual trenches from the war.

An interesting museum, well laid out. Thought provoking displays and some interesting personal artefacts from soldiers who were on the frontline. Not too over whelming in size for children. Interesting medical display.

If you're at all interested in World War I or 20th century history, it's worth going out of your way to visit Verdun and the Memorial Museum. The Battle of Verdun was one of the bloodiest battles in history - roughly 300,000 French and German soldiers were killed during the 9 month slaughter. The French eventually held off the Germans, but at a horrific cost.
Even if you know little to nothing about World War I, the museum does a great job of explaining what was at stake in the battle, as well as the horrors of combat. All information is laid out in French, German, and English. I was most impressed with the lack of jingoism - even though the battle is one of France's greatest victories, there's no hint of gloating. The exhibits make clear that the German soldiers suffered just as much of the French.
You should note that there's no public bus service to the museum (a shuttle bus from the Verdun tourism office to the battlefield sites was dropped this past summer). I took a taxi from the town to the museum (for 40 euros roundtrip), but I would recommend simply renting a car, as that would make it much easier to get from the museum to the ossuary and to Fort Douaumont.

This relatively small museum, which was apparently upgraded last year, offers a world class experience. Its combination of stories related to the participants in the battle backed up by quality artifacts is a modern approach that works well here. This is not a chronological review of the battle of Verdun; rather it is a thematic description of the experiences of those who endured the fighting. The museum is completely trilingual (French, German and English) and there are some quality audivisuals throughout. A very impressive attraction which is a great introduction for those who want to visit other sites on the battlefield. You'll need at least two hours and there is lots of free parking. A number of other sites are very close indeed including one of the destroyed villages, the French Ossuary and cemetery and a number of memorials.

I would check directly with museum or ask your hotel to do so. As it is a holiday weekend.

Planning a trip to France with wife & 6 yo son. I'm interested in WW-I and would like to teach my son about this too. Kids like moving things or neat stuff. 2 years ago I really enjoyed the "tunnel WW-I museum" at the Somme. Is this as good?

I haven't been to the tunnel museum, but there are lots of interactive displays at the Verdun Memorial and loads of school children visiting it. I think he'd like it.
