About
In the Middle Ages the territory of the present day Jeruzalem was given to a German chivalric order. Frederick of Ptuj granted them the territory as a feudal estate. They left their mark in the church with their cross on the ceiling above the main altar. The church was named after the painting of the Mother of Sorrows (the original is claimed to have been brought here by the crusaders or pilgrims from Jerusalem, Palestine, in the 13th century). The church was constructed in the 17th century.Jerusalem still attracts pilgrims from all over the world searching for their place of peace there

Situated at the top of a hill, this very old church is quaint and worth a view if you are in the area.

Jerusalem Church is a little church located in the middle of the vineyards in Jerusalem wine-Region, in the East of Slovenia. While I walked around the vineyards, I found this nice church, which has a bell tower and it is very simple and small.

Stepping into the church building is quite fascinating in many ways - historically, architecturally and aesthetically. On a second visit, a member of the hotel staff from next door, gave us some interesting background - the stories of crusading knights and a beautiful local girl added a lot of colour to the visit since the bones of the young woman are still there!

It was a very beautiful, peaceful church worth a stop and look. It is very close to the Hotel Jeruzalem. The countryside around the church is beautiful and peaceful. Lots of grapes.
