The castle has been completely emptied throughout the centuries, so do not expect to see exactly the furniture of the times, how people lived in the middle age, and such.

Instead, the latest owner, since the seventies, has been patiently refurbishing the place with medieval objects and furniture he could buy/find in antiquarians and flea markets.

The result is very interesting. Not your typical castle for sure, but each of the dozens of rooms has its own theme and according objects. So you will find some medieval rooms, but also a room on Napoleon, a room on Turkish themes, and so on.

The guide was very helpful, explaining both the history of the castle and the refurbishing approach pursued by the owner.

Frankly Entrecasteau would not be worth the visit but for this castle.

Rather idiosyncratically restored by the current owner who also guides the tours!

You need to time your visit carefully as there is only access for guided groups.

We have visited the castle many times as we have a holiday home nearby. On this occasion we took some friends to visit and checked that they would learn about the history in English. At the entrance they confirmed that the guide would provide an English commentary, However unfortunately the visit took place in French only. When challenging the guide she said that she only provided a French service and that

Guided tour by the owner was very interesting and it was lovely to see inside this château (which I have seen many times only from the outside) which has a number of beautiful artefacts and decor. Tour was in French only but there were information sheets in English. We took our two very young children (1 and 3 years) and the owner was very keen to show them around too.

We went for the guided tour this afternoon and enjoyed hearing the history of this castle from the owner. His dedication to renovating the castle and the grounds is admirable and he has so many stories about the many people through history who have touched this place. His presentation is in French - while he speaks some English, the explanation is in French.

This is a small chateau not like the large chateaux of the Loire valley. Interesting setting in the heart of a village overlooking gardens. Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby.

One hour tour. Entrance fee. Tour in french only, led by person who know owns it. Worthwhile, but he talked too much and didn't allow enough time to truly look at so many interesting pieces of art, decorations, etc. He also takes credit for all latest restoration, when much more was completed by previous owner, who he did not mention at all. Lots of history, for certain. And people do live in it. Overlooks lovely park area with garden designed by the person who designed Versailles
