We had a very enjoyable ride into Bedale from Redmire on the train. Spent some time looking around Bedale and back to the station for the return journey unfortunately, we had misread the time table and had missed the last train back, after chatting to the nice lady in the Ticket office and her husband a very kind volunteer who lived in Ripon (who would not give us his name)drove us back in his car to Redmire to collect our car. We were so grateful. Lovely train journey and excellent volunteers.

A quaint step in the past . Relaxing way to see the countryside. Staff friendly and helpful. Not something we would normally do

The Wensleydale Railway, if you will forgive the pun, is on a journey. Not at all as polished as others such as NYM or KWVR but as British Rail used to say “we are getting there’. We travelled by vintage diesel from Leyburn to Bedale for a day out. The train had been recently repainted externally and looked resplendent. However, inside a little more refurb is needed. Staff were all friendly (and probably all volunteers). The journey was not the fastest - but gives ample opportunity to admire the Yorkshire countryside. The railway seems to be working hard to constantly upgrade itself (for example some work is being undertaken at Leyburn Station) and well worth supporting.

Well done all involved in the organisation, preparation and carrying out of this thoroughly fun day out with a difference. Really loved our round trip steam hauled along this lovely long route through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside - not to mention joining in with the Ukulele players and singers in our carriage. Lovely afternoon in Leyburn - full marks to the displays and overall entertainment. Real great atmosphere due to huge number of people in 1940s clothing, music and entertainment. Blitz bar on the station lovely final touch and every aspect of this day out in our much loved home county. For those like us who love steam engines, please note you have the chance to travel on the Wensleydale line this August behind steam - details on their website now.

Finghall Lane is a request stop on the Wensleydale Railway with trains running as far as Redmire to the west and Northallerton via Leeming Bar to the east. The station is set in delightfully rural countryside with a short uphill walk to the village and its pub, etc. This halt has its own stationmaster who also operates the level crossing. An old fashioned waiting room has potted plants, magazines for sale and even comfy armchairs. The platform is enhanced with flower beds, etc. Access is free. A relaxing place to visit.
