The Red Lion Pub, Litton
Nov 2021 • Couples
We were staying in a lovely village of Litton in the Peak District and the local pub for food and drink was The Red Lion.
We didn’t realise that we had to book for food so walked in and they were so friendly and accommodating. They found us a table and we had on the Sunday a roast dinner. It was amazing. Taste and look very impressive.
We then went during the week too and had a steak and ale pie and mash, again couldn’t fault it.
The whole atmosphere was lovely, friendly and everyone is happy to talk to you even if your not a local.
Would recommend going for a meal but remember to book before hand.
Thank you to The Red Lion pub for being so nice and pleasant.
Hope to see you all again.

Warmest of welcomes and amazing food
Oct 2021 • Couples
warm welcome and fantastic food

On arrival we were greeted at the bar and had the warmest of welcomes. We made the mistake of not booking anywhere to eat whilst our visit to the Peak District and this place was recommended by someone else from a local bnb, and after a quick phone call the owners of the red lion in litten managed to squeeze me and my partner a table in on that evening, which was absolutely fantastic.
The food, wow amazing, I had the steak and ale pie and my partner had the chef special steak, followed by a sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate tort. Both were delicious and highly recommended, cooked to perfection.
The pub/restaurant wasn’t overly big inside but it was beautifully laid out and decorated, a real cosy atmosphere perfect to enjoy a crisp autumn evening after we had spend a day walking about the district.

On a scale of 1-10 I’d give this place a very well deserved 11, we will be back again very soon

Great food, beer and ambience.

First class pub, with excellent food. Good atmosphere, great hand pull beer, service friendly and efficient. Need to book in advance as it seems very popular. Two friendly dogs. Love the world/UK map to stick in pins showing where you come from. Great idea! Really enjoyed both our visits during our week’s holiday in Derbyshire.

Service was very good and staff were friendly BUT...

On ordering our food we were asked to leave a bank card at the bar until we'd finished our lunch (4x sandwiches + drinks). I rarely get asked to do this, even in city bars/restaurants where orders are large but on this occasion it was a straight forward lunch. It didn't dawn on me at first but on observing other customers ordering after us, they were not asked to do the same. On reflection, I am left wondering if this was an oversight or something a tad more targeted? Would be good to know? We received good service and lunch (after a long walk) and tipped to reflect but this experience has left me feeling uncomfortable - I was with my family and did not want to draw attention to it at the time.

First time here, and we were very impressed with everything, very good set up for social distancing, table service outside, and waited on by very polite and professional staff, And to top it all the food was beautiful... we will be back and might even bring our chocolate Labrador.

As good as ever
Jul 2020 • Family
First time back to the Red Lion since lockdown and we must say it's good to be back.
All precautions are in place so all can feel safe
The food was as good as ever especially the Halloumi skewers they are seriously yum
The beer choice is good and better than most at the moment and always well kept.
Lovely day spent walking is always topped off with stop here
Good to be back

Nice food and beer

Booked for a family meal whilst stopping in the village. Friendly host and although we had to wait too long for the food when it arrived it was good quality and enjoyed by all.

Missed Humphrey
Oct 2018 • Couples
Visited twice whilst staying just down the road once for a drink and once for dinner. Humphrey the black Labrador is a bit of a local legend so was disappointed not to see him however that was the only disappointment Good range of beers and a querky layout set the scene. We started with the warm bread and dips and the chefs scotch egg. A comment rather than a complaint I’d have liked the yolk a bit more runny but that’s just a personal preference the sausage meat casing was lovely. We followed up with two plates of fish and chips with mushy peas. Two very full plates with perfectly cooked fish and an adaquate if not generous amount of hand cut perfectly cooked chips and the mushy peas were just the right consistency. The cheese board was very nice but a few more crackers would have been welcomed
