My two sons (10 and 6 years old) and I spent an enjoyable afternoon exploring the numerous waterfalls and wooden footbridges of Hareshaw Linn.

Upon arrival at Bellingham, the car park was full, but I managed to park close by. In these times of the Covid19 pandemic, I was looking for something away from the hussle and bussle and crowds of people. However, the car park was a sign of how popular this walk is. It was a busy afternoon with lots of walkers in both directions. Most people remembered social distancing and would wait to let you through at various points where it narrows. As you'd expect, there were those that ignored it and barged their way through regardless.

The walk took us the better part of an hour to get to the end waterfall which was worth the walk. There is a seat at the end to let you rest whilst taking in the view! With high rainfall the days proceeding our walk, the waterfalls were certainly powerful. I was glad that I was wearing walking boots and the boys in their wellies as the footpath was both muddy and slippy in places. Parts of the walk has high drops from the footpath to the river, as well as some very narrow, steep climbs so those with young children need to keep a close eye on them. I did see (unbelievably) two men, one in flip flops and another in sandles which did make me smile given the conditions!

All in all, a walk I'd recommended for those that are (relatively) fit and mobile.

First thing to say is that they have given the wrong postcode for this location on the website. It is down as NE46 1BS which takes you to Hexham town centre which is approximately 15 miles away from the actual car park for the waterfall. The postcode you need is NE48 2JS. This takes you into the village of Bellingham from where the woodland walk commences. Before getting into the details of the walk itself, just a couple of things to bear in mind. The signpost for the walk itself is not very clear and the car parking facilities are very limited with only ten spaces. We did manage to find on-street parking not too far away. The first part of the walk is flat and easy going. We did take the precaution of wearing proper walking boots which we would recommend. Once on the woodland trail (which accordingly to a signpost is a mile long although we would suggest it is quite considerably longer), the route is well laid out, a tad rocky in places and slippery in certain weather conditions. There are some steep steps and despite what some people have said about this being accessible for pushchairs, we would not recommend this. There are approximately seven smallish bridges across the river along the route. There are some seating areas, but these are few and far between. Although we found the walk to be tiring, it was well worth it in the end as the final waterfall was spectacular, tucked away in a little secluded wooded glen. There are some smaller water falls along the route but these are just a pre-cursor to the main waterfall.

A very pleasant walk through woodland to the waterfall at the end. Some parts are a bit tricky so not for the infirm. Enjoyed the walk but you have to pass many people as it’s just a walk there and back. Everyone was polite and courteous. Very small car park and No facilities although there are public toilets on the Main Street in Bellingham.
Make sure you pick a dry day and wear suitable foot ware

Absolutely gorgeous walk would highly recommend it for more able bodied groups and individuals. A good quality part with steps along the way. Not suitable for those less able or push chairs. Bridges are gorgeous and there are several waterfalls to enjoy along the way, magical!

This used to be a lovely walk, now greeted by a small carpark rammed with cars, rubbish, overflowing bins and worse. Cars blocking access to houses, dog waste everywhere and in a time of Covid. We only have a short travel here ( less than 5 miles) but seem to be people from country wide. Stopped at friends house as couldn't park there, set off for walk with dog on lead and met by even more rubbish at start path at Low Dam (500m from car park) and worse to come, nappies up trees, dog waste on path and black bags everywhere. Even toilet paper and human faeces behind trees. Got to first waterfall which used to be a nice picnic area that is now trashed with rubbish everywhere. Turned around and went home, a once lovely area turned into a tip by people who don't care.

Beautiful place to go to get away from it all. Car park is really small and no toilet facilities. The walk was really nice. Hilly in parts but I am a smoker, overweight and unfit and I managed it. Quite a few people there but people very respectful especially in regards to maintaining distance. Never saw any wildlife which was disappointing. Definately will be going back in summer when restrictions are lifted as several places to go for a meal afterwards but currently closed. Lovely day out for all the family. Highly recommended.

We did this walk on New Year's Day 2020
The weather was calm and the sun shone through the trees in certain parts of the woodland.
The walkways in parts were muddy but very passable as long as you wear the correct footwear, this walk will be excellent in the Spring or Summer.
The various small waterfalls leading to the main fall were in full flow and the main fall was very impressive.

A lovely little walk from the free car park in Bellingham. We set off at 7.30am, and had the walk and waterfalls to ourselves for a spot of wild swimming in the bracing water.
The 3 mile (round trip) walk is not too taxing, but uneven underfoot, with steps and bridges. The outbound stretch is a climb up to the falls.

Lovely walk with small children, lots to look at. We spotted a red squirrel and some other people saw a deer.
Some smaller falls before you get to the big one which is beautiful.
Not suitable for a pushchair or anyone who has difficulty with steps/uneven under foot
I would highly recommended this walk

Reading earlier comments I can now say the footpaths are clear of fallen trees. whoever is responsible have done a great job well done and thank you. A lovely sunny afternoon walk. Snowdrops and deer. If you want to see more details and photos of our walk you can see it on my blog.
