We went there in the day with the purpose of doing the Gruffalo trail but it was great to see all of the effort that had gone into the lighting for the evening events. Most were impressive to look at even in the day. We weren't sure what had happened to the actual Gruffalo and couldn't spot him, but had a really enjoyable walk.

Parking does seem expensive at £8, but the woods themselves are free so for a family of 4 that's only £2 each.

The cafe is nice, it isn't cheap but prices are comparable to everywhere else in the country. If you want a quick takeaway coffee etc...there's always the side hatch rather than queueing inside.

If anyone does find the Gruffalo or know what happened to it then please let me know :)

I visited the forest several times over the Christmas period; firstly for the lights and secondly for a walk. I would agree with the other comments about the cost of parking; it’s comparable to parking in Manchester City centre. The light show was ok but too static and so I thought it was boring in comparison to Dunham Massey and they also don’t include free parking which I really think they should for the price.

The cafe is appallingly slow. No other way to describe it. It needs a massive logistical overhaul. It took 25 mins to order and another 45 mins for the food to come; simple bacon butties and toasties. They really MUST sort this out.

My partner and I drove to Delamere Forest this weekend and this time we walked around Blakemere Moss, the lake opposite the Whitefield Car Park.

Being honest, we didn’t love it. The lake itself is quite murky and really swampy so you can’t get close to get a good view. The dog loves a little paddle but it was so muddy and dirty we didn’t let him.

The circular walk we did was decent - it took us about an hour it takes you round a cleared woodland path so nothing too strenuous. It’s really quite enclosed though so not too much to see other than the path in front of you.

We’ve visited Delamere quite a few times now and tried a few different routes. We really want to love it as much as some other walkers seem to but for one reason or another it just isn’t for us. In our opinion there are far better, prettier walks nearby - not worth the pricey parking.

We did find a nice pub on the way home though, The Goshawk in Mouldsworth. Only a 10 minute drive away from Delamere and it has a nice outside space for an after walk pint!

Can only buy drinks at their cafe
2 cans of Tango cost £3.50
£8 parking for 2hrs and 8mins!!
Rip off

I have always loved Delamere Forest and before Covid I used to meet friends here for a catch up and a cup of coffee.
Just my 8 year old and me went today, booked Go Ape and arrived prior to our start time as I knew it was a fair walk from the car park and we’d need harnesses etc.
Loved Go Ape but couldn’t buy drinks there in 31 degree heat because they’re not allowed to sell them due to the cafe’s monopoly on food and drinks! Dangerous rule considering the exercise and heat involved! We were in desperately in need of hydration!
So when we’d finished I had to walk right past my car and onto the cafe.
It cost me £3.50 for 2 standard sized cans of Tango and by the time I’d bought the drinks and got back to the car I’d been there 2hrs and 8 minutes so the car park cost me £8!!
I was absolutely disgusted
I will not be returning, such a shame as it is a lovely place to ‘pop’ to for a couple of hours!
I don’t ever spend a whole day here so no idea how they think £8 parking is acceptable! Shocking!
If I hadn’t of bought extortionate drinks then my parking would of been cheaper. I’ve lined multiple pockets of theirs today and feel aggrieved. I live close by, this is not a theme park but they’ve adopted the same ethos.

first and last visit to the visitor centre - no signs to say how much parking is, they just say pay when you leave. I was there 2 hours 15 minutes and was charged £8. Which after an expensive trip to the cafe felt like a complete rip off which absolutely should be advertised so people know what they are agreeing to when they park. Poor.

Been coming here for years for leisurely walks followed by an ice cream and a hot chocolate at the end. It has recently been updated with a new visitor centre, cafe etc.
Parking is now classed as a full day if you stay for more than 2 hours, we arrived at 1244 and paid at 1446 and were charged £8 for the pleasure! Sorry a full day should be anything over 4 hours in my opinion.
Also 2 boxed sandwiches, 2 cans of soft drink and 1 bag of crisp £14.80.
Also noticed a sign for ‘Christmas at delamere’ with the intention of taking my older children to see the light display that will be there. On looking at the website a family of four will be charged £70 to walk through a decorated, illuminated forest with parking and hot chocolates at an extra charge. I’m sorry but this is scandalous.
Also I suggest you invest in better signage as 3 different groups of people asked us the way to different parts of the forest today as they were unable to find their own way due to the poor signage.
So disappointed in what used to be a relaxing, affordable no fuss Sunday walk. We won’t be returning.

Thanks for taking the time to give Delamere Forest a review. I’m sorry you didn't feel your visit offered good value. The charges are in line with other Forestry England forest centres across England and significant investment has been made in facilities recently with more to come. Delamere Forest remains as popular with visitors as ever. You may want to consider a Delamere Forest membership which includes unlimited parking as well as other benefits. The Christmas at Delamere Forest trail is produced by one of the most highly regarded producers in the UK. It's events at other Forests and venues sell out repeatedly. Dates are booking fast and many are already sold out.

Visited here for the first time since last year. Astonished at the development of the new visitors centre, cafe and car park. Several walks of various length, the grandchildren were especially taken with the Gruffalo. Paths were mobility scooter friendly throughout. I was also surprised at the number of people on the paths, shame about some cyclists/electric scooters who were not being pedestrian friendly. Later on had an expensive ice cream and paid £8 for parking, do download the Glide Parking App, then you can pay from your car and avoid the lengthy queues at the pay machines.

Visited Delamere Forest today - Parking charges gone through the roof - now double pre-Covid prices. £8 for 2+ hours. Might be good value for a large family in one car if you wish to stay all day, but not so for a couple meeting up with friends who had to travel in 2 cars as per Covid advice. Why cant you charge £1 an hour so that those of us wishing to walk just 2/3 hours can enjoy the forest. BEWARE, charge signage not available once you have entered, so nasty shock once you come to pay if you missed sign at entrance. New visitors centre not fully open, yet full charges still in place. Lovely outdoor space but will not be returning as become too 'exclusive' for pensioners looking for a nice day trip out!!!

Swinging car park charges are a great deterrent for many visitors and disabled who cannot afford these prices. It’s not like it’s a city centre where land is extremely expensive. Let us enjoy the countryside without ripping us off.

Before the new visitor centre and car park, parking was FREE. Park away on the forest outskirts and take a picnic and it’s still FREE.

We did a return visit to delamere following a very enjoyable visit in the past. The area has clearly had a considerable amount of money spent on it and is intent on getting the money back as quickly as possible. The walks really haven’t changed at all but the car park charges are absolutely sky high. In fact it was our intention to have lunch at the cafe but would meant a further £3 for another hours parking, we weren’t prepared to do so and left to find lunch elsewhere. It’s a great shame because the forest is a lovely area but because of the excess charges we won’t be returning.
