Fantastic drive up to the top with precipitous drops and views of the Abula railway route viaducts before it goes into the tunnel. Much quieter than the Julien or Bernina passes - though I doubt you could get coach parties up there! More of a sense of wildness there. Interesting Swiss army fortifications which really blend in with the topography so look out for the interpretation boards!

I was exhausted from travel- I hadn’t slept in a bed in 30 hours- having worked all day until 2300 and departing on a 0520 flight and then going directly to Lucern to enjoy two hours on a lake journey and then two hours by train until Chur to begin my journey to this Albula Pass. But it was great and scenic and fantastic and so worth..... keep your eyes wide open- you won’t be disappointed.

A very beautiful trip over the pass with great views and great driving roads. Make sure you have enough time to make a few stops along the road to take in the views and enjoy the stunning scenery and dramatic mountain pass.

Albula pass in the Canton of Graubunden Swiss Alps Switzerland was an area we stopped in several times on our drive as the scenery was that good. We toured thru all countries that border the swiss alps and thru to get to many other places. It put the highway pass you have to buy in Switzerland to good use.

Visited Albula Pass. Old trade route. Still snowed over in September. Tried a trek to Lake Palpuogna at Preda. Tough. Gave up after a while. Walked back to Albula Hospiz, around for nearly 150 years. Good food and warmth.
