This little village on the banks of the Douro seems to be by-passed by most of the big cruise/hotel boats- and I cannot understand why. The village is blessed with hot springs (said to possess healing qualities as so many of these springs are). There is a large facility over-looking the Douro designed to let tourists take advantage of the hot springs. There is a tiled indoor pool with a beautiful view of the Douro, as well as a gym, mud and Turkish baths, vapour treatment and 'vichy massages' (done by a masseuse wearing bathers under a warm shower) available for a few Euros.
This would be a delightful side-excursion on any trip up the Douro- and something a bit different to all the vineyards and Quntas along the valley.
