Quiet reflective graveyard
Jun 2020
Given the history of the nearby Ham House, you would expect there to be an old church in Ham, but St Andrew's was not built until 1830-31, with the south aisle added in 1860 and the chancel added in 1900-01. I would guess that a church was not needed in Ham itself until new housing and thus a larger population started to appear at the start of the 19th century.

The Church is closed at the current time due to the pandemic restrictions, but we explored the graveyard, which had seats in which you could sit and reflect.

Apparently the church contains several fine stained glass windows including one which is a memorial to the lyricist and theatre manager George Dance (1857-1932) and his son Eric who died in a prison camp during the Second World War. It may therefore be somewhere I shall return to explore in more normal times.

Quaint

Attended a family confirmation on the hottest day of the year in this lovely old church in Ham village. Lovely acoustics and quaint English church atmosphere in the intimate surroundings of the church. Worth a visit.

The church of my childhood, visited for the Armistice service and and for a special service for the men of the villages of Ham & Petersham who died from injuried during and after the 1st World War. A beautiful church and churchyard, full of heart-stopping interest and tradition.

Perfect Funeral Church
Feb 2018 • Friends
Attended a family funeral in St Andrews Church Ham and it was the most lovely final farewell in an ecumenical service by the amazing Lutheran lady pastor Frau Schaub and a Nigerian catholic priest. This Wonderfully dignified setting in a beautiful old church on its own grounds led to a memorable service with fabulous acoustics for the beautiful violin solo by Anete Graudina.

Lovely stained glass!
Sep 2016 • Family
This is a Grade II listed Church of England church which was designed by Edward Lapidge and has 32 windows. Some of these ( I think 11) are lovely stained glass by Shrigley and Hunt. Interestingly, Lutheran services in German are held here on Sunday afternoons twice a month to cater for the local German population. Well worth a visit!
