How a pub should be
Aug 2019
Out for a few beers with my neighbour and suggested the Wharf, he was really impressed. The plan was to also do the Silk Trader but he enjoyed the beer so much, we stayed.

The Wharf has everything really; games, books, artefacts, pool....and a great choice of well kept ales.

The pubs all have a jar showing the colour of the ale and I was able to chose well on this basis. We both had the Otter from Devon, excellent. They also had a Ruby Mild and a few lighter/ golden ales, one from Markham, a brewer I like. The Otter was £3.30 a pint, very competitive!

We'll be back here sooner rather than later.

Great traditional pub

The Wharf is a short walk uphill from the town centre, a stones throw from the converted Hovis Mill and worth the jaunt. The beer here is well kept and if you enjoy real ale you'll be well served.

The pub is filled with artefacts and decoration and there are plenty of games and a pool table.

Definitely one to include in your 'crawl' or to visit in the evening. One note of caution, it was closed when we passed last Saturday afternoon, check the opening hours if you're going to walk up the hill!

Very nice place to have a chat , to read some book and of course to grab some real ale. Taps are changed quite often.

Excellent real boozer
Apr 2017 • Couples
A proper old fashioned boozer with well kept cask beers and friendly staff and customers.
One little grumble, it would be good to have a cask beer with a higher ABV available please.

Réal ale

Great local pub. Excellent choice of cask ales and wood burning stove which added to the cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Friendly, helpful bar staff. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Great traditional pub
Dec 2016 • Friends
A really good old fashioned pub with a log burner, bar games and regular live music. The beer selection is great with lots of cask ales. Overall a very cosy and welcoming pub and will definitely return.

Proper boozer
Oct 2016 • Couples
Well kitted out, great selection of drinks, live music, nice people... what more could you ask for? There are not many "proper back street boozers" left in macclesfield so this is a must visit for those that like that environment.

The pub is fairly old fashion these days as the decor is dated. The pub provides real ale which isn't too bad as I prefer real ale. The choice can be hit or miss though as I prefer the non hoppy variety preferring darker ales. Sometimes entertainment is provided but is very eclectic to the taste...a drinking mans pub.

Brilliant beer (best in town), great atmosphere and 'real' pub. There is always a great selection of ales in offer and all well priced. Live entertainment at the weekend also add a little extra
