About
The newest part of the museum is the Machinery Hall, opened in July 2019, with the exhibition The Rule of Machines – a fascinating interactive exhibition on car mechanics and traffic physics, safe driving, and building safe roads. Outdoor exhibition Road Time is a road going through time and space where you can see old and new vehicles. Visitors can also explore Eastern Europe’s largest collection of road construction machines. For children, we have a wide selection of two-wheeled and electric cars in the traffic city. At the Varbuse Post Station, you can learn about the development of roads and modes of travel and there is a children’s museum on the first floor of the house

What a beautiful museum complex, the history of roads, road equipment, bridges, tractors and many interesting things there is in this museum. This is the biggest and most chic display I've ever seen. I advise you to visit both adults and children.

I was first sceptial about visiting Road Museum. But if already in that part of Estonia worth to check it out. Most likely all ages will find something interesting to see or learn. Good entertainment for couple of hours.

A lot of heavy machines for road construction and maintenance. A few buses and autos. Almost everything belongs to 40-90th of 20th century but some items belong to earlier periods. Everything you can touch or come in. Saurer bus (was built in 1943) you can ride (not always but they arrange trips sometimes).
As far as children want to get into everything (and it wasn't easy to climb on) they were almost exhausted in 3 hours.

Estonia has got it right to attract people by renewing the whole idea of a museum concept. Whether it is the Maritime museum in Tallinn or the Estonian Road museum in Kanepi, you can touch and try things by yourself. Lot to do for kids - electric cars and free horse carriage, but also for adults to see what it was like in 70ties and 80ties in the Soviet Estonia.
If you have a trip to Southern Estonia in mind, I do recommend to pay a visit there!
