You'll stumble on this ruins if you are heading to the Church of the holy rude. It's what's left of an old residential house of the Earl of Stirling. Only the facade is left and, on its back, a cemetery. Worth passing by.

This is a wonderful historic landmark close to Stirling Castle which offers many wonderful photographic opportunities for the enthusiast. Steeped in history with one of the oldest cemeteries behind and right next to the Church of the Holy Rude again a Historic Centre of great note.

Mar's Wark was originally a Renaissance mansion where the castle keeper, the Earl of Mar, lived nearly 500 years ago. It is of great strong importance to the History of Scotland, but there is nothing to tell its story or even to indicate what it is when a tourist stumbles on it on the way to the castle. I'm sure lots of people would like to have at least a hint of what it is.

While wandering around Stirling's old town, Mar's Wark can be found next to the church of Holy Rude. It is a beautiful ruin of an old town house and well worth a look if you're heading that way. Also (bonus) it's free!

It was built as a magnificent Town House in the 16th Century and still retains a lot of the original features although it is now a ruin. Its easy to imagine what it must have been like in the day. There are also good views of the building from the cemetery behind.

Just one of many interesting things to see in Stirling. Take time to walk around town after visiting the castle.

Mar's Wark is a very old building that you pass as you walk up from the city centre towards the castle.
The Earls of Mar were the keepers of Stirling Castle and supported the Jacobean side during the uprising, but since that failed the house fell into disuse and ruin.

If you enjoy walking around a variety of ruins then this is certainly worth a stop. There isn't anything amazing, but it is very interesting an overlooked by most everyone. It won't take long to visit and it is definitely worth a stop as you stroll from the castle back to the town centre.
