Lovely first lesson

I wanted to practise my cantering position in a private lesson so tried Abbeyfields. It's a really friendly yard and the intructor was kind and explained things clearly. I rode a very sweet, responsive horse too which was a big plus so definitely recommend this stables!

Great little place

Both my daughters have been going to Abbeyfields for private lessoons and group lessons for some years now and throughly enjoy it. The teachers are kind and patient and work wonders at building children's confidence, (unlike a couple of other riding schools we've tried, where staff are very rude, disinterested and racist and they don't have a clue about safety).

Costs for lessons are very reasonable.

Both my daughters have also attended the pony mornings during the school holidays, which are absolutely fantastic as it gives them a real insight into the grooming and mucking out etc, then they have a riding lesson inculded in the cost too.

Yes, there are dogs roaming around the stables, but they are all very friendly and always welcome my daughters and I when we are there. We have never had a problem with any of them in the 10+ years we have been going there.

I would highly recommend this equestrian centre to others.

Very good little yard
Dec 2012 • Couples
I ride here every other week and have for the past year, the yard is clean (by working livery standards), the horses well looked after and the staff friendly. I've been to perfectly manicured, posh, central London riding schools and have encountered worse maintained horses and ruder staff for a far greater cost.

The hacking in the area is great, with some nice flat parts for a good fast canter. The school is fine, lessons constructive and well planned out - you never feel pushed to do more than you are able.

In response to Paula K - if you're late then yes of course you loose lesson time, otherwise you hold everyone else up. Personally I'd be really annoyed if my lesson was late because someone couldn't get there on time.

Disgusting, unsafe, unprofessional!

Following my today's first visit at Abbeyfields Equestrian Centre, I am more than happy to state a very negative review and opinion, absolutely backed up by many resonable factors. First of all, I was about to be 10mins late (thanks to amazing London Transport!) so I called them to warn that I will be late, like a person with manners should. I've got told that I should 'understand' that I will have only '20 minutes left' out of my 30 mins beginner class. I thought it was okay, however I know one stable in Teddington (Park Lane Stables) where they werent counting EVERY single minute! It worked out that I was only 5 mins late, however as I started walking down their rather dark, long entrance road with my boyfriend who was about to record me riding a horse, we saw one big dog coming out from behind a car and then another one from the other side, To be honest, I though they were chained up, but how wrong was I when they started to run towards us!!! I was panicking and my boyfriend had to calm me down and protect me with his own body, because he knew that if they will realise that we are scared, they will attack us. I've been traumatised. I stood there and tried to control myself, but decided to back off when they started to come closer and closer to us, barking and showing us their teeth. Not a pleasent experience, but we calmly walked away not even looking back. I'm more than happy that we did not take our little girl with us! After this experience, I decided to call the stables and completely cancel my lesson and told them the reason why and told them that they should at least warn new riders that they have got two massive guard dogs there, however all I've received on the phone is 'yeah yeah, whatever' and the lady put down a phone on me. Message to Abbeyfields Equestrian Centre: I wanted to ride a horse, not have an unpleasent experience with two big dogs!
