Paid a visit to the Roman Fort of Binchester on Sunday 4th August 2019 and were met at reception by a pleasant lady who confidently gave us information on the Fort. Entrance charge was £5 which I found to be very reasonable. Site is well...More

We spent an interesting couple of hours here, taking a look at what's been uncovered by TV's 'Time Team'. The more recent work being carried out here was also worth the trip across the field. The staff and archaeologists were lovely and spent a good...More

Binchester, once thought to be a small fort on the way to the wall, has stunned the archaeological community after Time Team exposed the extent of the forts and settlement. The original bath house was exposed some time ago, but successive recent digs have only...More

This is an interesting Roman site near Bishop Auckland. The site itself is a work in progress, there is a bath house and the commanders house along with the regimental bath house which is under excavation , at the moment it is under tarpaulin, you...More

We visited yesterday on a glorious day but I’m sure it will still be amazing in poor weather. It has the best preserved Roman Bath house in Britain and a second which was outside the Fort and still only partially dug. These are both under...More

Well they left an Interesting bath house with roman child footprint in concrete. Second bathhouse under temporary cover close by, this could do with labels on the stone work to identify the various parts. Amazing to think of the age of this structure. Remains of...More

Perhaps it's because Binchester Roman Fort is just a short walk from my home, but I prefer to think its appeal comes from more than just local pride. The Roman Fort at Binchester is one of the best preserved in the country, and boasts numerous...More

We arrived in November and the fort looked closed, which was a blow to my friends who had travelled from the USA! But we ended up getting a guided tour by Julienne which was very insightful, interesting and had so much extra information. We couldn't...More

I enjoyed visiting Binchester, but the ticket price was a bit steep for what you see in there. I wouldn't want to pay for entire family to see it. I was there on a nice day with good weather and I was the only one...More

I'm not sure if there is a walking route, however the road from Bishop Auckland was closed the day I visited. It looks as if it will be closed for a while. I visited last week.
