Quick visit
Aug 2021
Small hall with moderate gardens. Some nice things to see in the house but the emphasis on the descriptive sheets about each room was on the artwork rather than historical info.
At least as HHA members we got in free as the £5 fee would have been poor value.
From what we could see of the barn it looked a pleasant wedding venue.

Not Worth A Visit
Aug 2019 • Couples
No friendly greeting on arrival whoever took our membership details never looked up from the desk.

No guides, no real history of the house only white laminated cards available to view in each room. Very disappointed spent less than 15 minutes viewing a few downstairs rooms not many artifacts to be seen.

Very expensive at £5pp.

Great place for a wedding
Jun 2019 • Friends
2Mercury visited and reviewed Meols Hall (the House) on September last year and recently attended the wedding of our granddaughter held in the old tithe barn and stable yard within the grounds of the Hall.
We feel that it would be difficult to improve on this situation as a wedding venue. The old barn provides a romantic atmosphere for the ceremony and the beautiful grounds make for fantastic photo opportunities.
The staff ensured that everything went without any problem, and we certainly must pay tribute to the wonderful ‘wandering minstrel’ violinist who played before and after the ceremony.

A lovely visit to an Unique Place
Jul 2018 • Family
I paid a visit to Meols Hall with my family back in the summer. It was my first time i have ever been into the Manner House itself. The entrance hall is beautiful and i enjoyed viewing the four public rooms each one full of charterer.

The decor and original features are lovely The grounds around the Manor House are beautiful, lovely and peaceful to walk around. I would highly recommend you visit the Manor House and grounds in Southport. Its only open at certain times of the year,

Delightful situation, lovely house

Driving (or walking) through the gates to Meols Hall is like entering another world of beauty and calm.
The curving drive through spacious, open parkland dotted with wonderful mature trees; at this time of the year still full of leaf, brings you to the house.
Whilst not to the same grand scale as many historic homes, this is an imposing building which has been tastefully extended and modernised over the years and is still home to the Hesketh family.
The tour of the house is quite limited to a small number of rooms on the ground floor of one wing of the building; but full of antique furniture and original paintings; many of which feature members of the Hesketh and Fleetwood families.
It is recommended that you make your tour with an enthusiastic guide who will bring the history of North Meols and the connections with the Fleerwood family of Rosall to life.

Better than I hoped
Sep 2018 • Couples
The Hall is full of atmosphere and gives the illusion of being in the middle of the countryside in spite of being surrounded by the outskirts of Southport.

The tour starts in the small rear entrance hall followed by clockwise...Yellow Room, Grand Library, Drawing Room, Main Entrance Hall, Dining Room, Pantry. The garden beyond is walled to two sides and has a ha ha vista of meadows and trees and the distance hill towards Wigan. Not a house in view !!

Highlights were the Grand Library, added in the 1960s, but in the Georgian style and the huge life size horse portrait therein after Stubbs. Perquisites from Royalty from Charles 11 through to Victoria. The portrait of the girl in the Yellow Room who later dies from choking on a cherry stone. This is indeed a Treasure house of paintings, the Romney and Wright of Derby portraits of note in the Main Entrance Hall.

The tour is what you make of it, soak in the atmosphere, take your time to look so it isn't meaningless.

a lttle disappointed. we arrived 5 minutes early . A grumpy women opened the door and just said we arent open for 5 minutes and shut the door. The same women sat behind the desk took our money and never even said hello (all visitors we noticed got the same treatment) . Inside a pleasant country house, only one of the 3 floors open to the public. Passed through the building in 20 minutes as there is not agreat deal to see. No gardens to visit.

Lovely small manor house
Sep 2017 • Family
Love this house and its'grounds. There us a large barn in the courtyard for hire as a wedding venue. I'm sure ut would make a romantic setting particularly for summer weddings.
Only pity is the infrequent opening times and dates. But private viewings can be arranged apparently for prospective hires.

My friends and I paid a visit here. It is only open August to mid September. Having lived in the area for over 60years I have never visited it before although I have been to a wedding in the barn. It used to have yearly game and country fairs in the grounds and occasional horse shows.
It was very interesting although only part of the house was open. We had a guide and cost £4 each.
